My mother is sober when I fetch her. Which means she throws ever insult and snide remark she can as we drive to the house.I’ve learnt to ignore her. Chiara and Danika’s group then had their attempt which had the same result. Today has been a long, hard day. I’m ready to draw a long bubble bath and eat pad Thai and Spring rolls while watching Big Bang reruns after Alessio collects his order. I climb out my car and start unlocking the front door. I feel a body pressed against mine and something cool against my throat. “Hold still.” A deep manic voice sounds in my ear. “I just want the cocaine and no one gets hurt.” I close my eyes and take a breath, thinking of how to get myself out of this situation. He’s positioned himself so I can’t go for the crotch and he’s too tall for me to head butt into his nose. He angles the knife so it pierced my skin and I let out a muffled groan. “Open the door.” He hisses, spit splattering my cheek. I slowly turn the key in the lock and then pause. Hurry up Les, please. 10 Months Later Jared “I’m going into town for a few things. Wanna come with? We can get a milkshake.” Chiara says as she leans against my office door way. “I’m busy at the moment.” I don’t even look up at her. “I’m only leaving in 15 minutes. If you change your mind, you know where to find me.” She sighs and walks out. I lean back and sigh as well. The last little while had been hectic. I know Chi is just trying to make it better so I finish my last few papers and head downstairs to meet Chiara. We drive around town and buy a couple of things before heading to the square with all the restaurants. On our little walk, I feel Flint stirring. I haven’t felt or heard from him since the day after the fire. As we pass a fancy restaurant, he snaps to attention. ‘She’s here!’ I howls.
