To Be Expected
Magnus paced outside of Sapphire’s door, praying that she could sort out her panic and see her way past her conditioning. He couldn’t take it much longer keeping his hands off her, but he was determined not to add to her trauma. She deserved so much better than that. As he changed, he wondered if she’d ever been able to play and kick back in her fur. What little she’d told him sounded to him like the entire pack forced her into isolation and forced her to view her wolf as something she must hide. To Magnus, that was a crime against the beauty of her wolf and losing her freedom. All shifters should have the freedom to exist in both their states.             It took a long while of pacing, but she finally left her room. Sapphire smiled at him hesitantly and he couldn’t get over how beautiful she was. She was pretty w

Drawing the Line in the Sand
Frank struggled with writing the formal letter to McDonnell. He wants to be clear that McDonnell overstepped his place, kidnapping his niece and giving her a safe haven. She belonged with her pack, where they could keep her silent about their pack business. He knew for sure that Sapphire couldn’t keep her mouth shut. She was far too simple to understand what to stay silent about. So, he sat there and assured McDonnell that if he returned her unharmed, he’d reopen negotiations for a non-aggression treaty. That he was sure it was a misunderstanding and anything she said was dramatized for attention.             But if McDonnell chose not to return her, he, as her Alpha, would see this as a sign of aggression and an act of war. No one would be foolish enough to keep that stupid woman. Even if she played off McDonnell’s white knig

Change of Plans
“I’m sorry Sapphire, this is serious. I need to get this communicated to the others as it’s time sensitive. Would you like to come with me? I’m hoping I can get this done quickly and still be available to you after that.” Magnus disliked, no, he hated this. She was taking second fiddle to her uncle’s whims, and she’d done that long enough and should be too far away from him to be affected by it.             Sapphire sighed and nodded. It felt like a relief or reprieve for the moment from the spot she’d found herself in. “Let’s go. If this helps keep everyone else safe, then I say we get it done and dealt with.” This she could do without feeling uncomfortable or guilty. Herself consciousness directly resulted from not understand how she should interact. She just didn’t have

What If
Magnus and Sapphire sat waiting for Hayden to arrive. He’d messaged him about the letter and they would speak to the pack. Get the information out there so that they would be aware and stay safe. The last thing he needed was some poor unsuspecting fool trusting a stranger. This was war that he was dragging them into and that alone wasn’t something he did lightly. But the red flags he’d seen weren’t imaginary now. His mate sat here worrying that it was all her fault and it wasn’t. Her uncle didn’t care about the why or how of it all. Magnus couldn’t let her go back to that. Mate or not, no one deserved that treatment. Now finding out that there were ulterior motives made it harder to ignore. “I can’t believe my uncle would do this. No that’s not entirely true. I can believe that he’s capable of doing this. But I d

Coffee
Hayden entered the bus depot’s restaurant and immediately knew where April sat. Right beside the pie case with a couple of coffees reading a novel. It was beginning to feel like a familiar thing between the two of them. Talking with a coffee in hand. He couldn’t help but wonder if it had a significance for them. He spotted a folder on the counter before her. Whatever she copied had quite a lot of weight to it. Hayden wasn’t sure what it could be but he moved toward her with a smile. “Hey, how are you this afternoon?” “Better now that I know Xavier didn’t mess with you.” “Xavier? That’s the jerk that wants you to go on a date with him?” “That would be

Mommy Lies
Ivory got away from her father successfully and prayed he listened enough to do what needed to be done. Sapphire was ruining everything by being so selfish. Next stop was to put a bug in her mother’s ear so she could work on her husband too. If things didn’t go back to the way, they were, others would start noticing there was something wrong here and then people would start asking questions.             No, that wasn’t true. Some people realized Sapphire wasn’t here, and they were asking questions about where she was. Lizzie was telling them she was busy or out running errands. But some were getting upset with her excuses. What Ivory couldn’t understand was why these people were so concerned with talking with Sapphire. What did she have to say that was so important? She was a nobody. The only reason she was around

Introductions
Hayden watched April step outside of the restaurant to phone her elder again if she didn’t have any messages from them. It took quite some time for her to return. It wasn’t looking good by her body language was. But he’d stay here and respect her semi privacy. Even though it killed him to see.             April swung around and smiled at him. She gave him a thumbs up before she turned away. Then she was putting the phone away and returned to her seat. “It’s alright. It would appear as we have more than just consulting between us. Before you ask. I can’t say anything. But I’ve been given clear limits, so when I say I can’t say something, can you respect that?”             “I will assume I don’t have a choice in th

The Past Surfaces
Magnus couldn’t understand how this worked, but he wasn’t happy to let Sapphire out of his sight for this business. “Fine. In that case, April, Hayden, it will be the two of you discussing this between each other. I and Sapphire will take on setting up for the pack gathering to discuss the pending war. We expect you both to be there and we’ll leave the questions to the last so that Sapphire can be there to hear most of it. Hayden, you’ll take notes of the questions and leave them on my desk.”             “Sounds like a plan. What are we discussing before the meeting? April and I, that is.” Hayden wasn’t sure what was happening, other than the letter was vague and full of threats that meant little to them.             “

The Facts
Hayden sat there and read the interpretation of the treaty. Why hadn’t they been able to break these treaties before? He kept looking from the documents to April, who was reading a different section of the legal translation. “Does this sound right to you? I’ve never seen a legal document with spell work written into it.”             “It happens, but not normally to this extent. I don’t recognize it either and I’ve studied quite a lot of it, looking for a way to break this. But whoever interpreted this has a different take completely on it. I’m surprised I didn’t see it before this. But I wouldn’t be surprised if it was because I was too close to it.” April rambled on as she flipped pages, trying to take in as much as she could before this meeting. She knew it was complicated, but

Class Begins
Magnus needed to hear what was going on at the meeting. He couldn’t wait to hear it secondhand. But he didn’t want to abandon Sapphire to herself. He didn’t know if he could trust her not to run while he was gone, and he couldn’t bear for her to be locked away again. No, she needed to have a reason to stay and if he couldn’t mate with her, then there must be another reason beyond him to keep her here.             Learning to be his Luna was not a one day crash course. She needed people she could trust to have her back and be there to guide her along the way. Sarah Ann appeared to adore her and had expressed an interest in befriending Sapphire. She knew the workings of the pack inside and out. He was pretty confident that she would assist with this.
