Chapter 51 - "I might not be the only one."
Cassandra’s point of view: “What happened? Why did you stop?” Lucas asked, not having seen or sensed another werewolf, an Alpha at that, ahead of us.But, I couldn’t take my eyes off Dalton. My heart skipped a beat right when his gaze met mine from across. I watched as his eyes widened at the sight of me. Shortly after, his jaw grew tensed. He glared at me, making me take a step back before taking another.I wasn't ready to face him, I realized. When I made no such move to close the distance between us, Dalton stormed towards me making me take several steps back. It was then that Lucas saw him approaching us. "Who is he? Do you know him? Why is he looking at you like that? Is he the man you've been searching?" Lucas bombarded me with questions."No, he's my Alpha." That was all I needed to say for Lucas to step out of Dalton's way. Every werewolf knows that coming in between a furious Alpha and his pack member when you were not part of the pack meant direct death. And, Lucas was

Chapter 52 - "Hands off my butt, mister!"
Cassandra's point of view:"How do we get across this swamp?" I glanced at Lucas. "If we -""We follow Marcus's footsteps." Rowan intervened. I turned to where Rowan had his torch light shone at to find traces of those same footsteps we'd found leading into the dark forest. I looked at Lucas and as if he felt my stare, he looked at me too. Nodding, he said, "Okay. We need to be careful though. He might have tricked us leaving these traces of his footsteps behind.""You are right." Dalton agreed. Lucas's eyes went wide in surprise, quite shocked that Dalton had agreed with him. I bit my lower lip to stifle the chuckle fighting to break free. "Let's go," Lucas gestured for us to follow him. "Just step where I'm stepping." Rowan and Jordan followed Lucas first while the rest of the guys stayed behind Dalton and I. In case anything happens, they would protect their Alpha with their lives. We walked in silence. I could hear only the sounds of our shoes squishing as we walked on arou

Chapter 53 - Who exactly was Lucas?
Cassandra's point of view:"I'm not mocking you." Dalton refuted as he turned the torch light off, letting the dark forest engulf us in total darkness. "You are," I argued back, staring right at him through the darkness. "I'm not." He shook his head, shrugging nonchalantly.I bit back a cry when the branch shook with his actions. "Don't move!" I ordered him.His eyes widened in disbelief, looking quite shocked that I had dared ordered him to stop moving. He opened his mouth to say something when a noise from the bushes down there disrupted our banter. I knew better than to say or ask anything. 'Marcus.' The voice within me alerted me of his presence. I held Dalton's arm to get his attention. Once our eyes met, I mouthed, 'It's Marcus.' It seemed like he had to force his eyes to focus on my face. 'I know,' he mouthed back, having already sensed him too. 'What do we do?' I mind-linked him. 'Stay still,' he held my hand and together, we looked down. It wasn't hard for me to locat

Chapter 54 - He's gone! Marcus is gone!
Cassandra's point of view:The moment I thought about him, I felt his stare on me. Looking in his direction, our eyes met. Taking this chance to observe him, I felt the dark energy within me stirring anxiously at just the sight of him staring at us. Something about Lucas made it so uneasy that it kept trying to hide itself whenever he was around us. But, it seemed like it wouldn't stay still if something goes terribly wrong or if Marcus tries to hurt me. Averting my eyes elsewhere, I avoided Lucas's gaze but I could still feel his stare burning holes into the side of my face. "What do you think you're looking at?" Dalton shouted at Marcus who kept glaring at me. Meeting gazes with Dalton, Marcus barked, "She's my chosen mate." Dalton scoffed. "You're no longer fit to be her chosen mate after you tried to kill her and let me remind you that you bargained with that rogue for your life by trying to sacrifice her." "What I do with my chosen mate is none of business -" A low but me

Chapter 55 - "Let's follow him!"
Cassandra's point of view: After taking some more rounds of the dark forest searching for Marcus, we had given up. "He like completely disappeared!" Jordan exclaimed, breathing hard. Everyone was pretty much exhausted. "We need to go back to the pack. Rowan needs medical help. He's still unconscious." The warrior holding Rowan upright said. "It's nearing dawn. If we search the forest once the sun is up, we might at least get a hint in which direction Marcus might have gone." The other pack scout suggested. He did have a point. It would be much easier to search through such wild woods during day time. "Then, take Rowan and Cassandra back to the pack." Dalton ordered the warrior who had been carrying Rowan. I opened my mouth to disagree with his decision when he threw me a glare. I pursed my lips and crossed my arms across my chest. "You guys, come with me." Dalton gestured at Jordan and the rest of the guys to follow him. "What about me? Do you still need me to show you around

Chapter 56 - 'Fuck you, Marcus!'
Cassandra’s point of view: “He’s damn fast for a werewolf his size.” Lucas remarked.“He’s the pack’s Beta and has been trained along with the best warriors and pack scouts.” I told him as we followed the trail of blood that Marcus had left behind in his haste to escape us.If Lucas hadn’t defeated Marcus and left him injured, he wouldn’t have ran away from us.Lucas had been a rogue for sixteen years. He’d grown in the wild woods. He wasn’t someone who would play by the rules. He’d defend himself in every way possible. That was the only way he could have survived the wild woods for so long.Anyone who’d been kicked out of a pack at his age wouldn’t have been able to avoid being crushed by the more experienced rogues. When he was fighting Marcus, he was quite ruthless and merciless.I wasn’t surprised when he’d hurt Marcus since the latter didn’t stand a chance in front of him.“We are wasting time like this. Let me just smell him out.” Lucas stopped walking entirely.“How will you d

Chapter 57 – Dalton's sudden hostility towards Lucas
Cassandra’s point of view: Reaching out for us with his long arms, he was a couple of steps away from us when his steps faltered. I quickly pulled Lucas back when the zombie’s claws swung through the air, barely missing Lucas’s face. If I hadn’t pulled him, he would have gotten some pretty ugly gashes on his right cheek. Angling his face in a weird way, he stared at us like he could see us but that wasn’t the case. He could just sense us… or should I say hear us? I motioned at Lucas to stay still as I tightened my hold on his collar. Sniffing the air, the zombie’s head tilted downwards. He had scented Marcus’s blood. Taking a step closer, he perched down with his mouth opening wider the closer he got to Marcus. His venom like saliva kept dripping down on Marcus. I made a face at the sight of it… and at the stagnant stench that filled the air. ‘You’re so dead, Marcus! I thought, holding my breath as I watched him leaning closer to his unconscious body, sniffing him. Unlike me,

Chapter 58 - "It was him."
Cassandra’s point of view: Unlike any other time where I would stay away from this side of Dalton, I knew that if I didn’t do anything to stop him right now, Lucas would be wrongly beaten.“Dalton, stop it!” I yelled at him. Moving fast, I pressed my hands firmly against his chest to push him back when he tried to get closer to Lucas. He resisted. His wolf fought to take control of the situation. “I can smell him on you.” He growled out, glaring ferociously at Lucas.I looked at Lucas to find him lifting his hands up in surrender the moment Dalton said so. “I didn’t do anything to her.” He exclaimed, taking a step back from the seething Alpha.I could barely hold Dalton back. “Just listen to me… shouting won’t solve anything!”So, I thought of doing something else which I knew would calm him down right away.Snaking my arms around the back of his neck, I pulled his face down, closer to mine. His aroused eyes, shifting back and forth from light blue to dark blue, widened in surprise.

Chapter 59 - Time to head down to the dungeons!
Dalton’s point of view: “That fucking scoundrel!” Punching the table out of anger, I cursed out. Lucas who’d been lost in his own thoughts, jumped, taken aback by my sudden outburst. “What do we do?” Cassandra’s soft voice helped calmed the anger coursing through me. “Question him until he’d admit that he was the one who helped Marcus escape.” Standing up with a sigh, I held up my hands, intertwined my fingers, and shook my head. “What was his motive though?” She asked, seemingly already thinking about it. “I don’t know. He wasn’t Marcus’s friend. Marcus might have manipulated him or something.” I shrugged. I knew Marcus well. He would go to any extent just to have his way. She raised her eyebrows in surprise but her pursed lips showed her disapprovement at the thought of Marcus manipulating someone just to have his way. “Then, will he be punished even if Marcus manipulated him?” “Manipulated or not, he did commit a crime for helping Marcus escape.” I declared firmly, leaving

Chapter 60 - Alpha Dalton hated betrayers the most.
Rowan’s point of view: Alpha Dalton strode easily down the underground tunnel alongside the dungeons cells. Stopping by the cell in which Finn was being held captive, he gestured at me to unlock the door. I bowed in respect and quickly unlocked the door for him. Holding it open, I waited for him to enter the cell. It wasn’t the first time I’ve seen Alpha Dalton this serious. I was used to working with him in every kind of situations and this one was close to a similar occurrence that had happened before. It wasn't the first time that someone - a pack member - had betrayed Alpha Dalton and the pack. It had happened before and the circumstances were awful. After seeing what had happened with those traitors, I'm surprised that Finn had dared cross path with Alpha Dalton.Finn was chained to the walls with his head lowered down and eyes closed. On hearing us coming in, he raised his head and looked at us from across the cell. Clenching his jaw at the sight of Alpha Dalton, he stood
