Chapter 21
EmeraldThe day was the same as any other. For the breakfast rush I had served the customers and then when the chef for the morning went home, I went to the back to do lunch. Once the rush was over, near the end of my shift, I was back out on the floor to tidy up before the dinner rush. Talking to Taylor while we cleaned the tables and swept the floors, it was as if nothing was wrong. As if I wasn't being hunted for being the rogue of the most powerful pack in America. Once I made Rhoda something to eat and clocked out, I was soon leaving to go back home. As I stepped out though, I felt him before I saw him. I didn't have to look to see where he was, knowing that he was yesterday. Standing across the street, at the storefront, leaning against the wall. I didn't feel his other pack members this time and for that, I was grateful but also confused. He knew I was the rogue, didn't he? Why didn't he capture me yet? What was he waiting for?The questions in my head irritated me to the

Chapter 22
EmeraldThe night had ended with Lucas and Malena eating the dinner I prepared and teleporting back to home. My night was it's usual way and getting up at the crack of dawn was the same as well. The day continued as it always did and I was eventually clocking out for the day and about to go home to enjoy the rest of my day and my day off tomorrow. Rhoda had said that I deserved a day off and that she wouldn't take no for an answer. If I were to show up tomorrow she'd fire me- or so she says. Having stepped outside of the diner, I looked up, expecting to see him there. But he wasn't. The storefront was empty and I was confused as to why. Once I turned to my left though, I knew why. Because he sat at a street table, looking directly at me, waiting. The seat across from him was pushed out as if he were expecting someone. That someone being me.I knew I could no longer fight it. I couldn't pretend that I didn't see him or that he was, in fact, waiting for me. I knew it and I wish I cou

Chapter 23
EmeraldI wanted to tell him.I wanted to tell him why I was finding it hard to accept the fact that he was my mate. Every bone in my body wanted to. But my mind stopped me. I wasn't ready to reveal that part of my life yet. The only reason that the people that did know were because of the situations that led me to them. I didn't want to reject him. I wasn't going to reject him.I just needed time. "Emerald," he said, breaking my train of thought. My eyes went into focus and I looked back into his bluish-green orbs, enthralled with how vibrant they were against his skin. "I hope your silence is because you don't want to be my-"I kissed him. I brought my hands to either side of his face, covering his ears, and brought his lips to mine to shut him up. He was caught off-guard but I would've never known how fast he reacted to me. He brought his hands to my hips, bringing me to him on the floor. My butt settled on his thighs as he got off from kneeling and sat fully on the ground. I w

Chapter 24
EmeraldIt was nearly midnight. And I was awake. It was a full moon tonight and I could feel something inside me stirring but it was nothing compared to what new pups were experiencing on this night. For first transitioners, the full moon can be one that makes us crazy. Our wolves would get stir-crazy and want to be released, thirsty to roam free on their own. There were no rules for the wolves once they were released from the human flesh, they were bloodthirsty. For years after my first transition, Lilly hadn't made an ounce of a presence. She was trapped within and didn't make any movement to reappear. So with her gone, practically nonexistent, the temptations at the full moon didn't come out. But with her making a small presence when I touched Garret, and I heard and felt her for the first time in three years, something was softly stirring. I had it under control though. I sat on my pink Victorian couch, fan blasting as I was somewhat hot with a need to go out and release whate

Chapter 25
Emerald"Why are you wet?" Garret asked as I settled into his body, not knowing what else to do in my state. "Bath," I state weakly. "Cold bath."With nothing else to say, he quickly brought me to my room and into the bathroom where the ice was halfway gone from my overly hot body from earlier. Without so much of a word, he put me back into the tub, robe and everything, and I gasped at the sudden contact but also welcomed it. I groaned out of frustration and placed my head on the rim of the tub. I could tell Garret felt guilty and not being able to do anything, well not being able to do the one thing that could get rid of this burden. I understood the morals of wanting to do it the right way but I had less than five hours till sunrise and couldn't wait that long. "Isn't there a spell or something you can use?" he asked rushed. "To take the heat away."Looking over at him, my eyes now icy blue, I say while growling. "Personal... gain." He looked confused. I fought for dominance to e

Chapter 26
EmeraldI ached.I ached for days. Garret stuck with my wishes and didn't come to me for the days that I couldn't bear to look at him, let alone breathe his scent. The minuscule thing Lily did was a whimper. That was it. My schedule remained of working and going home to sulk. I had gone to the grocery store once this week to have food in my kitchen for when I cook but cooking has only resorted to shared recipes on Pinterest. I was so upset that not even cooking could ease my mind and my state. But even with all the pain I felt, I still missed Garret. The cause of all this. I knew that what he had done was in the past and before either of us knew of each other's existence. Well, I knew of him, I'd be dumb not to, but before we both knew that we were each other's mates. It still drove Lilly and me mad. Someone else knowing Garret more than I did was unsettling, and not just one person, but multiple. I sat here, on my couch, phone in hand, tempted to call him. What would I even say?

Chapter 27
EmeraldHaving changed out of my oversized shirt, I dressed in a more casual outfit. Quickly grabbing random garments from my closet, I slip on army green elastic waist modal trousers with a beige off-the-shoulder crop top. Pairing them with a black ankle Converse, and black crystal earrings that Malena made me as a treat of finishing my witch training. Easily fixing my hair, I overlooked my outfit, wondering if this was good enough to go see him. As I looked at myself a tad bit longer, my eyes fell on my dresser, seeing a ring that Garret gave me not too long after we had our first talk about being mates. He hadn't waited for me outside the diner like he usually did but I figured he had a pack situation so I didn't fret about it. I had gone home, preparing to cook dinner for that night. I wasn't sure what it was going to be, I knew that Pinterest would help me decide eventually. I walked into my apartment, going through the app as I looked for things to make. Closing and locking t

Chapter 28
Emerald"What?"I questioned. "Did you-""No," he interrupts. "I didn't tell him. I love my father but I don't tell him everything. That was more my mom's job..." I was silent, unsure on if he wanted to talk about his mom or the fact that his father wanted to meet me. Either one made me uncomfortable but I was willing to do it for the sake of the relationship. One was just going to be profoundly harder than the other. "Anyways, he was able to sense that I was withdrawn and that it was taking a toll on me...""And he wants to meet me?" he nods. I was silent. I knew that once I met his father the question would rise about my whereabouts and what pack I originated from and why my natural scent wasn't evident. It was all questions that I had yet to answer for Garret. He was being very patient about it and I appreciated that very much, but I knew time was winding up for me to reveal that part of my life that I had buried for so long. "Are you free tonight?" I questioned. He looked at me co

Chapter 29
Emerald's POVHe was shaking.I was shaking. He was angry.Mine was resurfacing pain and agony. He was pacing, it being clear that his wolf wanted to come out. I wanted to console him, I wanted to tell him that it was fine, that it was in the past but I couldn't work up the courage to say so yet. Tears threatened to spill out, but I tried to contain them as much as I could.I leaned back on the Victorian couch and stared ahead."How could they do that to you?!" Thadus asked angrily. "Your own brothers."Even with my state, I still got chills with hearing his voice, it was undeniable. The way his voice was deep and held so much base. If it wasn't for him being my mate, I would probably quiver in fear. With the given situation, Lilly had disappeared again, to whatever place she cowered in for those three years. He growled and at that point, I couldn't hold it in anymore. I whimpered as the tears finally fell. I never truly gave myself time to grieve all the mess I had gone through in th

Chapter 30
Emerald's POVWe settled in silence. I was in between his legs, his right one being propped on the arm of the couch while the other one was at a right angle, his foot on the floor. I knew he was uncomfortable but since I made no movement to get out of this position, neither did him. My head was against his chest, my hair a mess, and his fingers ran through it, calming me. "So... Do you believe me?" I question, never completely asking. "It's hard to believe," he stated. "But that's just it. It is hard to believe but so is our existence, so is yours. I've learned more about the world outside of just humans and shapeshifters that are unexplainable but I'm willing to learn because you're a part of that outside world. And confusion isn't going to make me go anywhere.""Good," I say softly. "Cause I don't know what the hell is going on but I know I can't survive without you."He chuckles slowly. "Me either."I looked at the clock and it read midnight. It had been five hours since he had
