Chapter 21
Jax made his way to Blake’s cabin. He was pissed that Amelia’s life was in danger. He knocked rapidly on Blake's door and Blake said for him to come in. By the look on Jax’s face, Blake could see that something was amiss. “What happened?” were his first words because he hadn’t seen Jax as worked up as he was before. “Come sit down and take a breath,” said Blake because he could see that Jax was about to explode. “He had the audacity to visit her at work and called her ‘his little pup’!” Jax was red in the face. It took all that he had within him not to take Blake’s desk and break it in half. Jax sat down and took hold of the arms of the chair as he tried to ground himself, and he heard the splintering of wood. “Sorry, I’ll replace your chair,” said Jax. He just couldn’t control his rage. It had for once gotten the better of him. Blake had never seen Jax like that before. He’d never reacted that way over the security of any pack member, not even one of the head Betas. “We simply

Chapter 22
“Thank you for standing up for me,” said Amelia as she looked at Jax with a look of guilt. “I really feel bad that so much fuss is being made over this. I’m sure that he’d have left me alone at some point. That or killed me.” She stood fiddling with her hands, nerves getting the better of her. Jax’s heart stopped when he thought of the second statement that Amelia had made. ‘If he killed me’. It would have been his worst nightmare come true. He couldn’t afford to lose her now. Not after he’d just found her. Not after she’d already stolen his heart. The members of the compound dispersed and went back to their business. All of the excitement was over. Amelia still stood glued to one spot. She didn’t know if she could move. It was as if she’d become a statue standing near the exit of the compound. She was prepared to stand there all night until the Hunters returned with news of the rogue's capture or death. “Why don’t you go home and get some rest?” asked Jax with a look of concern o

Chapter 23
The Hunters returned with a look of satisfaction on their faces. The first to meet them at the gate was Jax. He had been sitting on tenterhooks for their return. “And? What happened?” asked Jax, praying that they’d found him. “He tried to get smart and enlist the help of six additional rogues, but we took them out. He of course ran away with his tail between his legs,” laughed Sly, as he patted his men on the back. “Did you find him?” asked Jax, knowing how fast a rogue can get away if he needed to. “He tried to run, but you know us…he didn’t stand a chance.” Sly saw the relief on Jax’s face and it made him feel even prouder of his men. He was happy that he could do at least that for Jax. Jax had been so good to him and his men. “I took him down, boss. I obviously first played with him like a rag doll, but I eventually put him out of his misery. There is no way that he’ll be bothering Amelia anymore. I can promise you that!” “Thank you, boys,” said Jax as he shook each and every

Chapter 24
“Your mating ceremony, silly” laughed Amelia and thought it strange that Jax wouldn’t be thinking about it. It was after all such a huge part of being a wolf. Finding you forever mate is fate. “There is no mating ceremony happening,” answered Jax with a lift of his eyebrow, “who’s supposed to be mated?” “You and Stephanie,” said Amelia as she fiddled again with her jagged fingernail. How she wished that it was all a big mistake. She had such deep feelings for him but didn’t want to come between him and Stephanie. Jax nearly fell over he laughed so hard. “Are you kidding me? You can’t be serious!” doubled over with pain in his stomach from laughing so hard that Jax could barely contain himself. “What’s so funny?” Asked Amelia a look of confusion on her face. “She hinted at the festival on my first evening here that you two were an item. I was just wondering when you were going to make it official.” “There is no ‘me and Stephanie’,” replied Jax with a serious look on his face. Was t

Chapter 25
Jax had been walking Amelia to work and back every day for a solid week. It was his favorite part of his day. When they could be alone together without anyone else knowing about them. They were slowly walking home when Jax asked if Amelia would like to sit and rest for a while. He knew a perfect spot in the forest where they wouldn’t be bothered or seen. Amelia agreed and they walked there, hand in hand, of course. “Here it is,” said Jax as if presenting a gift to Amelia, “isn’t it just perfect?” Amelia looked at the clearing in the forest. It was perfect. There was even a tiny waterfall. “I love it! What more could we ask for?” said Amelia as Jax helped her sit down on a soft bed of lush green grass. Jax sat down next to Amelia. He loved to be alone with her but was sad that they were no longer holding hands. “Don’t you just love this spot?” Asked Jax as he lay down on his back next to Amelia. “I come here alone every now and then just to lie here and watch the clouds go by. Chapter 26
Jax walked Amelia back to her cabin. It was getting late and she hadn’t eaten much all day, he’d heard her stomach grumble more than once. “I’m sure your mother has a feast waiting for you,” said Jax, not wanting to let go of her hand. Being so close to her felt like life had only just begun. They’d just come out to the rest of the pack and he wanted to stay as near to her as possible, but he had work to do and couldn’t afford to act like a love-sick pup. Jax had just left Amelia at her cabin door, with a kiss on the cheek, when she heard a rustling to her left… somewhere in a bush nearby. She went to go and investigate and there was none other than Stephanie. Just waiting for her. Seething. “So you went ahead and stole my man!” said Stephanie through gritted teeth, “you must have known that he was already spoken for. You can ask anyone and they’d tell you that he is mine.” “That’s not what Jax said to me,” answered Amelia, for once not letting Stephanie get under her skin.

Chapter 27
“What you are asking of me is very dangerous, Amelia,” said Lucia as she shook her head no, “I could too be banished should our Alpha find out about your plot. May I ask why you don’t want to become a wolf? You owe me at least that much.” Amelia looked down at her hands in her lap and shook her head so as to say ‘no’. “It is one of the most freeing senses that you could ever experience. Running through the forest without a care in the world. Speed and agility. Better sight and smell. All of these wonderful things that you’ll be missing out on.” Lucia was trying to think of all the amazing things she’d experienced while being a wolf. Anything that would make Amelia change her mind. There were so many that she couldn’t stop listing them, but Amelia’s mind wouldn’t be changed. She was adamant that she wouldn’t turn for any reason. So Lucia gave up trying to convince her daughter. “What are you going to do when they eventually notice that you’ve never transformed?” asked Lucia, “what

Jax and Amelia walked hand in hand to the library. He had a huge smile on his face and she wondered why. “What are you up to?” questioned Amelia convinced that he was up to something. “I might have begun the arrangements for our mating ceremony…” said Jax as he waited to see her response. “You have?” asked Amelia, almost hopping up and down she was so excited, “is there a lot to plan? Can I help with anything?” She could barely contain herself. “I’ll do all of the logistical things, you just make sure that you show up looking your beautiful self.” Replied Jax who looked at Amelia with a teasing look in his eyes. Amelia loved seeing that side of Jax. Yes, there were times when he needed to be stern at the compound, especially with some of the Omegas, but the loving side was her favorite side of him. He was always so witty and had a return for every sarcastic remark. “You look lovely today.” he said as they walked, “I love it when you wear yellow. It really shows off the beautiful

Jax took Amelia’s hand and they started walking towards the forest. Amelia was quiet as they walked, her day replaying through her mind over and over again. Jax could see that it had really affected her and was furious. They walked slowly, in no rush to get back to the compound before Amelia and Jax had both calmed down. They stopped at their special spot in the clearing. Jax knew that it would help calm Amelia down. “Why do they keep coming after me?” asked Amelia as soon as they lay down on their backs to watch the clouds go by. “They obviously see you as ‘fresh meat’ and packs are always nosey when it comes to new recruits. Each pack makes it its mission to find out if any new recruits have joined a pack. It’s how they keep track of numbers.” Jax blew out a sigh. “I just wish that all of this wasn’t happening to you, especially when I’m not there to look after you.” Jax closed his eyes he was so angry, but didn’t want Amelia to see it. He lay there calming his heartbeat in case

The weight on Jax’s heart lifted as soon as Blake mentioned the idea. It was perfect. Amelia would be safe and surrounded by pack members who would defend her till her death. Blake and Jax called for Amelia to join them in Blake's office. Amelia thought it rather strange but did as was asked of her. She’d never been summoned by them both before. “Please take a seat,” said Blake as he motioned to the chair opposite him. Jax stood leaning on the windowsill, as calm as could be. “May I ask what this is all about?” asked Amelia confused as to why she was summoned. “I heard that you had another two ‘visitors’ today,” began Blake as he rested his elbows on his desk and steepled his hands before his face. “This is unacceptable. We can not afford for you to work at a place that puts you in harm's way.” “I understand that, but it is my only way of income,” stated Amelia, afraid that she’d have to give up her job and her independence along with it. “We have a different job in mind for you
