Chapter 01 Reunions
Hanna I all but jump out of the car at the sight of my dad waiting for me in the driveway. The years have been unkind to him, his graying hair and sickly pallor heartbreaking to witness. Tears brim my eyes as I run to his open arms and give him a tight hug. “I’m sorry,” I whisper, my throat choking up with all kinds of emotions that I’ve bottled up for two whole years. “I’m sorry for leaving you.” He simply rubs my back and kisses my hair. “Welcome home, sweetheart,” he says softly. I nod and smile. The scent of motor oil is strong from him, which tells me he’s been working on the garage this morning. “Let me look at you,” he says, a smile on his face. “My little girl’s all grown up.” He kisses the top of my head and wipes my tears, pinching my cheeks to make me laugh. His dark blue eyes look away from me for a second. That’s when I remember my best friend who came with me and drove me all the way back home. Dean is taller than dad, with a lean build and a million-dollar model’

Chapter 02 Partners
Hanna “Logan!” she says cheerily, latching onto his arm like a leech. But of course, she was the chosen one by the Alpha of Evergreen Pack. His chosen mate and Luna. Looking at her again, I’d say she hasn’t changed at all. No, she’s gotten more gorgeous these last two years. The crop top and jeans she has on shapes her hourglass figure perfectly, her ash blonde hair cascades past her long neck in delicate waves, and the heavens must’ve kissed her radiant face. Compared to my frumpy demeanor and overall lousy presentation of myself, as they stand together before me, I feel defeated once more. They’re the perfect pair. Even if I was in a relationship with Dean, the difference between us is like heaven and earth. “Oh, hello,” she says, looking me over none too subtly. “Didn’t think you’d actually show up. You look … well.” Dean pulls me even closer to him. We’re practically compressing our bodies together in a tight side hug. He makes a show of twirling my hair, then allowing it to

Chapter 03 Threads
HannaDinner is as awkward as one can imagine. Dad cooked my favorite Italian dish tonight—spaghetti made with his special homemade tomato sauce and fresh mozzarella and savory buttery garlic bread sticks. He even brought out mother’s pretty china, the ones with long stalks and tiny pink flowers with gold accents crimping the edges.Dean, unbothered by the stern aura my dad’s oozing out, continues to wolf down his food like he’d been starving all day. Any other day, this sight would’ve pleased dad. But tonight, he says nothing.I take a big bite as well and I almost begin crying again from how good it tastes. Nothing can come close to a nice home-cooked meal. They say love is the special ingredient and dad’s cooking proves just that. When I tell him the news, I’m sure he’d love to cook this more often.Speaking of news, I peer up at dad to see him staring at me. I promised I’d explain after dinner since Dean and I barely had time to eat on the road, wanting to arrive before it got dar

Chapter 04 Reject
Hanna“Down the drain where it belonged,” I answer.I feel him when he moves from the shadows, his massive form towering over me as he passes, then stands in front of me. Those sensations return and my heart nearly erupts from joy. It can’t help but be happy in his presence despite all the pain it went through. Even the heart deceives itself to keep beating.“That’s not very nice of you, Hanna. Any chance you can love me again?”Logan sounds nonchalant. This entire ordeal seems like a game to him. I don’t understand why he wants to torment me so. To my knowledge, I have never wronged him. We trained together as a pack, studied together, learned to live together, and protect each other in the face of danger. I have never harbored jealousy towards him as he excelled in everything, only ever admired him from afar. So why … it doesn’t make any sense why he’d go out of his way to break me any more than he has.But this isn’t the time to entertain such thoughts, nor should I hope for a logi
