Chapter eleven

Katherine’s POV

Ethan has been acting shifty.

I tried and wished I could forget that conversation I overheard that night but after tossing and turning I had to confront Ethan over breakfast two days later.

"So, who was he?" I asked casually, spearing my fork with eggs and a piece of bacon.

"Huh?" Ethan answered distractedly, too absorbed with whatever he was doing with his phone and wolfing down food to pay attention.

"The man from the other night," I answered patiently, tamping down the urge to get pissed off at him.

I waited for a beat and when it became clear he didn't even hear me, I dropped my fork so the loud tinkling of metal hitting metal drew his attention. "Ethan." I snapped.

He dropped his phone and looked at me like he was doing me a great service by paying attention. "What is it, Katherine? I'm quite busy." He says in an irritated manner.

I breathe In and out of my nose to calm myself, reminding myself that nothing will come out of me getting upset.
