As William walks to his mother and brother, all the feelings and memories he has suppressed for the last few years rise to the surface. He has to blink the tears of hatred and pain away. He did not think that he would have to deal with this again.
He made a deal with his parents. They would focus all their attention on him, and in return, Isaac gets to live the life he wants without his parents trying to ruin it or change it. They get to take everything out on him, but not a hair on Isaac’s head will be touched.
Isaac must have done something to anger their mother, but she has no right to violate their deal. She knows there will be grave consciences. His father is not going to let this go when he finds out.
William sees his mother lifting her hand again and Isaac braces himself. William hurries and steps in between his mother and Isaac, catching her hand. His mother's face becomes pale when she sees William.
"William, what are you doing here? I thought-"
"Have you been hitting him behind my back all these years?" he asks, anger spewing from his eyes. He gives a step closer to his mother, his grip tightening on her hand. She shakes her head frantically.
"No, no. I- he forced me to," she says as she points to Isaac. William turns lets go of his mother’s hand and turns to Isaac. He puts a hand on Isaac’s shoulder. Isaac looks at William and William notices the tears in Isaac’s eyes, mixed with confusion and fear.
William's heart aches at the sight, wiping a tear from Isaac's cheek. He turns Isaac's face to the side, inspecting the mark left on his cheek. Isaac flinches when he touches his cheek.
"Are you okay?" he whispers, pulling Isaac into a hug. Isaac nods in the embrace and William can feel the anger boiling near the surface. He has to get Isaac away from here.
"Why don't you go back to the others? Or do you want to go wait in the car?" William asks when he lets go of Isaac. Isaac looks at William while he wipes his face with the back of his hands. He clears his throat.
"I'll go back to the others. B is waiting for me," he says, turning to go back to the restaurant. William catches his arm and pulls him in for another hug. "Thank you," he says to William in the hug. William pats his back before letting him go.
He watches Isaac walk back to the restaurant. He is livid. He turns to his mother, taking slow breaths to calm himself. His mother's eyes are filled with regret. She should have known better.
"Why are you here?" she asks again. William shakes his head and puts his shaking hands in his pockets, trying to contain all the hate and emotions.
"Have you been hitting Isaac behind my back? We had a deal," William says with frustration. He thought he protected Isaac from this, from his parents.
"No, William. I swear, this was the first time," she says with a quivering voice. William scoffs while he crosses his arms. The anger burns his throat and he looks back to the car where Lianna is. She is still in the car on her phone.
"Why should I believe you? Is this just the first time I caught you? And father, has he been abusing Isaac?" Rose shakes her head, clutching William's arm.
"Isaac proposed to Bianca. On the same spot where you proposed to Evelyn. I arranged the hike so you and Evelyn can reunite and realize that you made a mistake. Isaac did not ask permission to marry Bianca. He- "
"He doesn't have to ask for permission. That is the whole reason for the fucking deal. You control my life and mine only. You leave him alone. He can do what he wants. He can also marry who he wants. It has nothing to do with you.” William pulls his hand through his hair and lets out a frustrated sigh.
“You broke the arrangement which means I can leak the evidence," he threatens. His mother's grip on his arm becomes tighter, her eyes are pleading with him. Her lower lip trembles.
"Please, no. It was me, not your father. If he finds out . . . William, he will kill me," she says, tears rolling down her cheeks. William plucks his arm from her hand.
"Why should I care?" He turns his back to his mother, ignoring her pleads and sobs as he starts to the car.. His mother catches his shirt, tugging him back. He spins around which causes her to lose her grip on the shirt. She stares at William with red and swollen eyes.
"Please," she begs him. William shakes his head and she goes to grab him again, but he steps out of her reach.
"That was the last time, you hear me? I don't give a shit what Father does to you. Leave Isaac alone. Hit me if you want, but leave him alone. If you touch him again, I will fucking kill you myself," he spits out, heading back to his car. His mother stares at him as he walks away, fear paralyzing her. What is he going to do?
William gets into the car and slams the door shut. Lianna is startled by his action and lets her phone drop. She jerks her head to look at him. She inspects him, seeing his glossy eyes. Did he cry?
She opens her mouth to ask him, but he starts the car. She sees his clenched jaw and white knuckles on the steering wheel. What the hell happened?
“You okay?” she asks, keeping her eyes on the road. William grunts out a yes before he lets out a shaky sigh.
He has to get away from here.
“We’re going home,” he says while keeping his eyes on the road. “When we get to the house, gather all your stuff. We are leaving.” He glances at Lianna and sees the frown. He does not have the strength for questions.
“Aren’t we going to say goodbye? I want to say goodbye to Bianca,” Lianna says, tapping her fingers against her legs. William shakes his head.
“We will see them again. Right now, I need to go home.” Lianna looks at William. She has so many questions, but she knows now is not the right time. She will ask him when they get back to the apartment.
Lianna watches William from her peripheral as they walk back to her apartment. He has not said a word during the trip back. She did not even attempt to make small talk, much less ask him what happened. He had this dark, disturbed look in his eyes that scares her. William opens the door and barges into the apartment with his bags, heading to the bedroom. Lianna trails behind him with her bag. She places her bag on the island in the kitchen and goes to switch on the kettle. “Do you want tea?” she asks into the silence, but there is no answer. Lianna frowns as she slowly walks to her bedroom. What is he doing? She enters the bedroom and sees William sitting on the edge of the bed, his head in his hands. His breathing is uneven and he is gripping his hair. “William?” He looks at her and she notices that his eyes are even darker. “What is going on?” she asks, giving a step closer. William shakes his head and stands up. He walks past her, slightly bumping into her shoulder. She bites th
Lianna gets out of the cab, pulling her jacket closer to her body. It is freezing tonight. The cab driver asks for the money and she opens up her small bag. She hopes she has some money with her. “Oi, don’t worry about that. I will sort it out,” a man says from the entrance of the building. Lianna watches as a broad-shouldered man comes trudging toward her. He stops next to her and holds a few dollars out to the driver. The driver takes the money and bids them good night. “This way,” the man instructs and Lianna follows the man to the building. They get inside the building and Lianna realizes that it is a gym. Why did this guy ask her here? She scans the place and sees William punching one of the bags. The white bag is covered in red marks. Is it blood? “I apologize for the abrupt invitation. You see, I am not supposed to talk to you.” Lianna turns her head slightly to look at the man. He has a glowering look on his face. He folds his hands in front of him and leans back. “I am B
Once they enter the apartment, William heads to the bedroom, but Lianna grabs his arm. He sighs mentally. He does not have the strength for a pep talk. He cannot deal with this now. Lianna takes William’s arm and leads him to the island in the kitchen. She pulls out a chair and gestures for him to sit. William hesitates. “Please?” she asks with a soft voice. William scoffs and turns to the bedroom. He cannot stand the pity on Lianna’s face. “Sit,” she demands and William pauses. He slowly turns around and sees Lianna searching for something under the sink. With a frustrated sigh, he sits down. Lianna grabs the first aid kit from under the sink. She makes her way back and sits across from William. Great, now she is going to patch him up. William places his hands on the table and watches Lianna remove his wrapping. The sooner she can get this over with, the sooner he can leave. For good. After Lianna has unwrapped his hands, she holds the bottle with saline solutions over a cloth.
William leans against the wall, looking around at his surroundings. There are a few people walking past him, all on their own mission. He turns his gaze to the school building across the street from him. The school building looks abandoned, except for a few children running through the halls. The pale grass in front of the school building makes him feel depressed. He checks his watch and lets out a frustrated sigh. Blake wanted to see him before he went to the color run. And now he is going to be late. He will just explain the situation to Lianna. She will understand. She always does. “Oi, why are you standing out in the open?” Blake’s gravel voice startles William. He jerks his head to Blake and finds him standing around the corner of the wall. “Good afternoon, Blake,” William greets while making his way over to him. Blake lets out a grunt as he leads them around the old wall. They come to a stop and Blake rests against the old wall. William steps next to Blake and crosses his
Light rain tickles Lianna’s face as she makes her way out of the school, William running in front of her. They had finished the color run, but it started to rain while they were cleaning up. They managed to finish packing up and are now hurrying to the car that William arranged for them. “Come on,” William calls over his shoulder, slowing his pace so that Lianna can catch up. She falls into step next to him and he lifts his jacket over them to shelter them from the rain. William leads her to the abandoned building across from the school where they can wait for the car. He ushers Lianna to the nearest wall which serves as protection from the weather. Lianna falls back against the wall and rests her hands on her knees. She tries to catch her breath. William also rests against the wall, running his hand through wet hair. “Ugh, I am soaked,” she says, twisting her shirt between her hands to get the water from it. William turns his gaze to her and notices that her white shirt is clingin
The boardroom is filled with the sound of frustrated remarks and fists slamming against the large wooden table. William’s eyes roam around the room as his arms rest on the table. He returns his focus to the binder in front of him. “Are you saying we don’t know what we are doing?” One of the directors stands up from his chair, his hand scrunching the paper. “That’s exactly what we’re saying. If you did your job properly- “ “Enough!” William’s voice booms through the room. Everyone immediately falls quiet and turns their heads to William. “Please sit down,” he instructs the director, without lifting his eyes from the binder. The director falls back into his chair and clears his throat. “Sir, you have to understand . . . “ The director trails off when he notices William’s eyes on him. He lowers his head and pretends to read something on the paper. There is a moment of silence as they all wait for William to speak. William closes the binder with a silent thud before he turns his attent
“Who?” She asks again, letting go of her father’s arms. “William Rhodes, the owner of one of the most successful hotel groups in the whole world. Partner at Intra Vires, one of the most well-known law firms in the world. I have mentioned him a few times.” Lianna shakes her head and laughs softly at her dad’s frustration. “Of course, you wouldn’t know. You never listen.” Her dad sighs. “I do listen, Dad. But I don’t recall you ever mentioning him before. He sounds important,” she jokes and bends down to pick up her dad’s cane. “So, does this William fellow know about your plans?” She throws the cane to her dad and he catches it in the air. She walks to the house but turns around to face her father. She continues backward, her gaze still on her dad. He uses the crane to support him as he follows her. “Yes, I met his father at a conference in New York last week. We talked about many things, including the marriage situation. We both agreed that it would not hurt if you guys could get t
Lianna hands Maeve a mug filled with coffee and sits down across from Maeve on the chair. Maeve takes a sip before she continues. “I still can’t believe it. You’re getting married? I never thought I’d see the day.” Maeve places the mug next to her. “And you’re getting married to none other than William Rhodes. I’m so jealous,” Maeve says with a giggle. Lianna rubs her eyebrow and lets out a tired sigh. “How do you even know who he is?” Lianna crosses her legs on the chair and leans back. “His name appears a lot in the news and he is constantly in the tabloids. He is so dreamy. And you’re getting married to him,” Maeve says, placing a soft punch against Lianna’s arm. Lianna rolls her eyes while shaking her head. “Sheesh, so he is like a celebrity?" Maeve nods her head with excitement. Lianna laughs at her reaction. "One of these days you'll be reading about me." "Don't even joke about that." Maeve takes another sip from her mug. Lianna stretches out her legs. "At least I will get
