Chapter 2 Biased Parents

"Mister, can we not publicize the news of our marriage? I'm still a student. I don't want those in my school to gossip about it."

"Okay," Ambrose agreed.

"Thanks, Mister. You're so kind!"

Ambrose gave her a card. "The password is your birthday."

Larissa was stunned. "How did you know my birthday?"

A smile crept up to his lips. He thought she was a materialistic person, but it turned out that she was naïve.

As the former heir of the Hamilton family, he had basked in the family's glory and reputation. However, his legs were crippled because of an accident, and he was forced to live in seclusion in Ambrollum City.

Since Larissa was his wife, he, of course, would have had to learn about her background in advance.

Ambrose held her hand. "You're my wife from now on. I'll give you everything you want."

Ambrose sent someone to take Larissa back to the Solace residence.

Larissa got out of the car in a daze while carrying a heavy briefcase. She wondered if getting married to Ambrose was too hasty on her part.

Charmaine saw the luxury car that drove Larissa back. She also noticed that the clothes Larissa was wearing were what caught her eye in the magazine.

There were only a hundred sets of them available worldwide. Even the rich might not be able to purchase those clothes.

After approaching Larissa, Charmaine asked, "Larissa, did you find yourself a sugar daddy?"

Larissa returned to her senses and looked at Charmaine calmly.

In her parents' eyes, not only was Charmaine smart, but she was also obedient and well-behaved. She was their pride and joy. However, only Larissa knew what an ugly person Charmaine was in private.

Charmaine stared at Larissa in a condescending manner. "You must have spent the night with a rich, ugly man for the sake of money, right? How much money did you get? Don't tell me he's only given you these crappy clothes!"

Taking a step closer, she continued, "So what if you're the real daughter of the Solace family? I'm going to take away your family, your status, and everything that belongs to you! You're only worth being my stepping stone!"

As soon as Charmaine finished speaking, she sneered and waited for Larissa to lose her temper.

However, this time, it didn't happen.

"I don't need such biased parents. You can keep them for yourself. I don't mind."

Then, Larissa walked past Charmaine and entered the house.

Charmaine remained standing in the same spot, shocked by what had happened.

Every time she'd triggered Larissa in the past, the latter would always fly into a rage and insult her or even beat her up. After their parents saw that, they would hate Larissa even more and shower Charmaine with more affection.

Charmaine wondered what was wrong with Larissa today.

Ethan Solace and Penelope were sitting in the living room.

When Penelope saw Larissa, her face fell at once. "Larissa, how dare you return at this time! Weren't you planning to run away from home? I thought you'd gotten independent and wouldn't return once you left!

"Also, what the hell are you wearing? Were you up to no good? You might as well pack up and return to the countryside if you dare sully our family's reputation!"

Larissa asked stonily, "You mentioned that as long as I give you two million dollars, I can continue studying. Also, I won't have to get married anymore. You're serious about the proposition, right?"

At this point, she had completely given up on this horrible family.

Penelope let out a cold snort. "Do you think I don't know what you're capable of? How can you possibly earn two million dollars just by relying on your part-time jobs?"

Larissa put down her briefcase wordlessly and opened it.

Both Penelope and Ethan were dumbfounded when they saw the stacks of hundred-dollar bills inside the briefcase.

"Here's two million dollars. From now on, you have no say in my marriage." With that, Larissa turned around to go back to her room.

"Stop right there! Where did you get this money? Did you steal it?" Ethan asked angrily.

Larissa lowered her eyes in order to conceal her surging emotions.

These were her biological parents. To them, she was just a lowly person who wasn't fit to be a part of the family.

"I'm working for a wealthy family. I borrowed the money from my boss. He allowed me to pay him back after I started working after graduating from school. Also, he gave me these clothes too. He doesn't want them anymore."

Larissa had no intention of telling her parents the truth at all. Under their surprised gazes, she turned around and walked away.

Although she was their biological daughter, her room was converted from a storage room located in the gloomy attic.

Meanwhile, Charmaine stayed in the spacious and sunny room on the second floor.

While Charmaine pursued elegant interests like learning music and art, Larissa took on roles at a butcher shop, worked as a waitress in a bar, and even provided tutoring services to students.

Charmaine could easily get affection from their parents. They were the ones who had nothing but pure hatred for Larissa.

Larissa took a deep breath. All of a sudden, she missed Ambrose.

Right then, her phone beeped once.

Someone with a black silhouette as their profile picture had started a conversation with her on WhatsApp. The profile nickname underneath an unfamiliar phone number was "Hamilton."

As soon as Larissa saw the nickname, her heart skipped a beat. Then, she started reading the message.

The message said, "Are you okay?"

"Are you Mister?" Larissa texted back.

"Yes," he replied.

"I'm great, Mister! I've given the money to my parents! They were so shocked that their eyes were as wide as dinner plates!" she wrote.

When Ambrose saw the smiling emoji sent by Larissa, a hint of tenderness tinged the corners of his mouth. It was something that he himself didn't notice.

"Don't worry about your parents. I'll help you," Ambrose typed.

"You're so nice, Mister!"

Then, Ambrose sent her a location.

"Come find me at this location tomorrow," he wrote.

"Okay, Mister!"

Larissa curled her lips into a sweet smile as she pressed her phone against her chest.

After receiving the money, Penelope never brought up Larissa's marriage ever again.

"Goodness, just imagine how wonderful it'd be if our company could cooperate with Hamilton Group!

"Even if Hamilton Group only has a small branch in Ambrollum City, a small portion of their profits could match a year of our company's income!" Ethan brought up the topic during dinner.

Hamilton Group? Wasn't that Ambrose's surname? Did that company have anything to do with him?

Larissa paid attention to her family's conversation quietly.

Penelope seemed to have thought of something.

"Oh yeah, Lukas has been pursuing Charmaine, hasn't he? The Hamiltons and the Millers have always been business partners. Lukas can probably help us out. What do you think, Charmaine?"

"Sure. I'll call him later." Charmaine smiled confidently.

"You're so thoughtful," Penelope praised happily.

Larissa pursed her lips disdainfully, knowing that Lukas Miller was just a perverted bootlicker.

"What's with your expression, Larissa?" Penelope barked out. "Don't think that you can rest at home just because you're on summer break! You'd better start working tomorrow! I'm not going to pay for your tuition fees!"
