Chapter 0003

*** Spencer ***

“Welcome to LA City, Spencer!” Max shrieked in excitement with his arms open, expecting a hug from me.

I shove his arms aside and grunt. “I hate the atmosphere of this place,” I muttered.

Max exploded in laughter. “Don’t worry, you’ll like it when you have a taste of the city fun!”

I groan but say nothing. This is the city where I grew up but due to some circumstances, my mother and I had to leave. We went to Mexico and started a new life there. I spent twenty years in Mexico and just three years ago, I established my own company. Although it was doing well and earning profits , I had a recent backlash from the people with a lot of criticisms due to the absence of a CEO. Max is the one who has been managing my company ever since it was established but when the issue was raised, he demanded that I come back home and resolve the problem.

However, my mother was able to convince me to relocate to the city entirely which means starting a new life here. I hate this place because of the experience I had in the past but how can I say no to my mother?

“Were you able to get the apartment ready for me?” I asked Max.

“I’m sorry, man. It’s difficult to get a nice and comfy apartment these days so you’ll have to stay with me until I get one ready for you.”

I groaned loudly. Max can be very annoying. I’m pretty sure that I’ll strangle him to death when he annoys me to some extent. But I love him for his loyalty and honesty. He is the one true friend that I have.

My phone vibrates in my pocket. I pick up immediately after seeing that the caller is my mother.

“Have you arrived in LA?” She asked.

“Yes, mother,” I replied.

“Did Max get the apartment for you?” She asked.

Yeah, my mother can be very interrogative.

“Not yet but I’ll be staying with him until he does that,” I said.

“Stay safe, son. I love you.”

“Love you too, mother,” I kiss on the phone and hang up.

“You are fully aware that you are not going to marry your mother in future, right?” Max asked, rolling his eyes.

“I’m not interested in any woman at all,” I said bluntly.

“But you’re not a virgin,” Max added as he laughed out loud.

I chuckled slightly. “Of course I have to train my little brother to be good at his work,” I joked.

Max laughed harder, “For twenty eight years and no woman.”

“Actually, there was one.”

“Miriam? We were kids then, Spencer, and still friends. I know you will never look at her as a woman to spend the rest of your life with.”

I nod. Max is right. Miriam and I are friends and my feelings towards her remain neutral.

“Even at that. Miriam and my mother will remain the only women in my life,” I said with confidence.

“That speculation died when you were in Mexico. Now that you are in LA, we are going to explore the field of love and discover its bright side. That is why we are going to the club tonight!” Mac announced.

“What! I have an appointment by ten in the morning.”

“You can reschedule it till twelve. You are the CEO of Spencer Group, no one is going to complain even if you postpone the meeting to next week!”

“Alright, I’ll go but no women tonight,” I sigh as I finally give in.

“Suit yourself then,” he said.

***

We arrived at the club at exactly eight. A loud music was blaring from the speakers and people were dancing and having fun with each other. I and Max sit at a corner and watch the fun going on around us.

“Let’s go to the VIP lounge,” I said to Max.

He glared at me and said, “There’s no fun in the VIP lounge. This is where you can mix up and have fun!”

“It’s obvious that I’m not having any fun like you are,” I retorted.

“Go to the dance floor, grab any nice lady, and dance with her.”

I shake my head and relax in my chair, preferably to look around. At first, I am not interested in whatever was going on here. But my mind changes when I set my eyes on a blond lady who is walking in with her friend.

“Damn! Are you seeing what I’m seeing?” Max asked as he stared at them in awe.

“Shut up, Max!” I snapped at him.

“The blond lady looks like your kind of woman,” Max added.

“I’m not interested in her,” I said and looked away.

“Well, I’m interested in her friend.”

From the corner of my eyes, I watched as they went to sit in the cellar and order a shot of alcohol. The blond lady is looking uncomfortable while her friend keeps nudging her softly. Somehow, I find my eyes are glued to her. When she turns around, our eyes meet but she looks away immediately.

I don’t know what it is but I feel like I have a deep connection with her. It is almost like our souls are meant to meet each other. But how can I approach her when she is with her friend?

I have never felt anxious to meet a woman before. This lady is different and I’m respecting her for that. At some point, her friend leaves her and goes to the dance floor. Max stands up immediately.

“I’m going to shoot my shot,” Max told me, “Won’t you?”

“I don’t know. What if she doesn’t want to start a conversation with me?” I asked him.

“Spencer, I have never seen you anxious about a woman before.”

“She’s not like others. I can feel that she’s special.”

Max looked at me in shock. It can be quite shocking to hear me say something sweet about a woman for the first time in my life.

“Then approach her in a special way. I’m leaving before I lose that damsel to a random guy.”

I sigh and decide to try my luck. If she rejects me, I’ll simply go to the VIP lounge and enjoy the rest of the night there.

“Hello,” I said calmly when I sat beside her.

“Hi,” she replied and smiled.

“How’s the night going for you?”

“I don’t really know. First time in a club,” she replied.

I examine her properly and notice the ring on her finger. Damn it, she’s already married!

“How is it that a married woman is going to the club for the first time without her husband?” I asked.

I noticed that her face clouded at this point and she sighed heavily. I thought that she wouldn't reply to me but after taking a shot of alcohol, she began to talk.

“I have some complications with my husband.”

“Can I know what happened? Just a few details,” I said so she won’t think I’m prying into her private life.

“He cheated on me with my best friend and she claims to be pregnant for him,” she replied.

“That’s bad. I’m sorry for asking.”

She waved it off, “It’s fine. I feel better now that I’m talking about it and besides, we’ll get divorced soon.”

Great! This means that I still stand a chance to be with her. That is if her heart is not completely broken.

“I’m Spencer Martins by the way,” I introduced myself and brought out my hand for a handshake.

She accepted it and replied, “Sydney Talker.”

“Sydney is a lovely name and you are beautiful.”

She blushed slightly, “Thank you. It’s been a while since I heard that.”

“Sydney, I wish I can do something to elevate your mood tonight,” I sigh.

She is looking sad and even staring at the open space. I feel bad for her and angry at her stupid husband for cheating on her. At least, she was going to divorce him and this will give him the opportunity to make her feel like a woman.

“Honestly, I wish you can.”

At this point, my favorite song begins to play. I notice that she is nodding her head to the best of the song.

“Don’t tell me that this is your favorite song too?” I asked her.

She nodded and smiled. A charming smile indeed.

“Come on, let’s dance,” she said and dragged me to the dance floor.

We started dancing and rocking, our bodies entwined as we danced to the rhythm of the song. The reaction of our bodies to each other is becoming more tense and intimate. I can feel how hot she is and my body is obviously on fire. I can’t resist it anymore. My body is yearning for hers and I can see it in her eyes that she is yearning for my body too.

I leaned closer to her ears and whispered in her ear, “I can feel your body’s reaction to mine. Are you feeling it too?”

“Yes,” she replied, a moan escaped her lips which turned me on immediately.

I slam my lips against hers, kissing her softly and gently. She reciprocates and I go deeper with my kisses. When we finally break from our hot kissing session, I muster the courage to tell her what has been on our minds since.

“Spend the night with me, Sydney.”

“Yes, Spencer.”
