I relax on the couch as I watch the recently published news about Spencer. I watch the television intently, seeing as he talks about his leave from the city and his subsequent return. I blow my smoke as a hard grin crafts at the side of my lips.
What a pleasant surprise to see Spencer in the city and with the revelation that he is the CEO of Spencer group, I am satisfied with the turnout of events. This proves that I can start again on my journey to ruin the man that destroyed me in the first place.
Tessa enters the living room and stands by my side. After watching the news for a few minutes, she picks up the remote and switches off the television. She turns to stare at me for some time, then stamps her feet angrily on the ground.
“Well, are you not going to say anything?” She asked with a plastered scowl on her face.
“Say what exactly?” I asked back, knowing exactly what she wanted to hear.
“So you are just going to sit back and watch the news as if it’s not raising the anger in your soul, right?”
“Tessa, relax. It is just the news about the return of my worst enemy, you don’t expect me to start jumping into conclusions about it,” I chuckled lightly.
It is true that Spencer is my worst enemy. After all, I was the reason why he and his mother had to flee from the city. That was twenty years ago and my scar has never been forgotten since then. But somehow, it seems like Spencer’s courage has been restored and the need to come back and receive more terror has gotten into him. I am going to make sure that this time, Spencer and his mother will be wiped off the map of the world for good.
“You better hasten up and make plans or Spencer will be your downfall this time around,” Tessa hissed.
Angry at her words, I grab her neck and tighten my hands around it. Tessa widened her eyes and looked at me with a great fear in her eyes - the expression that I wanted to see.
“I can see that you have learnt to sharpen your mouth over the years, but don’t forget about the reason why you are here. Remember the reason why I broke you out of that smelling jail that you were locked in for years. If you don’t want me to do something crazy like handing you over to the authorities or ending your life with my owns hands, then you better show some respect and even better, show where your loyalty lies,” I sneered at her and then let her go.
Tessa falls to the ground and cradles her bruised neck. I fume in anger as I glare at her. She is lucky to be my alibi. If not, I would have ended her life right this moment. A hand of applause is heard from behind us, I turn around to see old man Lee as he approaches us. Tessa crawls to the other end and sits on the empty couch there.
“Master, how was your journey to LA city?” I asked with all the calmness that I could muster.
“My journey was good but it turned sour when I realised that I am not the only one who returned to the city,” old man Lee replied with a wrinkled frown on his face.
“I know what you are talking about. I saw it in the news today,” I replied.
“You did? I’m surprised that you are still saying it with a lot of calmness in you,” he said, raising his eyebrows in a questionable manner.
“That was what I told him but instead, he decided to choke me and threaten me,” Tessa snapped in anger.
I glare at her with a murderous look on my face. We both know better than not offending old man Lee at this time of the day, especially with the way things had suddenly turned out to be. It was all because of Spencer and his stupid return to the city. If not, he and Tessa would have been having a peaceful tea session with old man Lee.
Spencer’s return means more work. We have to double our efforts to make sure that he was not going to come in between our plans to rule the city. The mission means a lot to me and I can’t afford to make a single mistake on the job.
“I’m not calm about it. I’m trying to be calculative with the situation. I can not just throw myself at Spencer because he returned to the city, I have to make serious plans and put them all together and make sure that they are executed properly!”
“You are making it sound like it is some kind of tedious work for you to accomplish. Maybe Tessa will be honoured to take over your place and probably finish the job that you are fussing about,” old man Lee smirked.
My eyes almost pop out as I hear him say this. Tessa might be one of the most wanted criminals in the city but that doesn’t mean that she can do better than him.
“I would be honoured to complete the mission for him,” Tessa smiled with evil.
“No! Tessa is not going to complete this for me, it’s my mission and my job. I will end Spencer and make him regret ever stepping his foot into my city!”
“Your city?” Tessa laughed. “The election is barely months away and you are already claiming the city as yours. You don’t even know if you will be eligible to run the process,” she mocked.
“I dare you to make fun of me again and you’ll return to the swamps where you came from!” I yelled out in anger.
“Enough!” Old man Lee scolded. He hit his cane against the ground and it made such a cracking noise that I feared for this house.
If old man Lee gets upset, both Tessa and I will serve as good dead meat for him to feed his dogs. None of us want that to happen and more of the reason why we don’t want to offend him in any way. But Tessa has been crossing her line lately and it’s beginning to piss me off.
“You both are here, shamelessly quarrelling among yourselves while Spencer is out there and he is making waves in the business industry. None of you were able to find out that Spencer's group belonged to him for the past three years that he wasn’t present and you were unable to find his location for the past twenty years since he and Elizabeth left. You totally forgot about him and are now surprised at his sudden comeback. Why? Because you are both fools,” old man Lee said.
“I am deeply sorry for the disappointment. It wouldn’t have been so bad if the young master did not waste his time on parties and girls. If you had not reasoned with him to join the election for mayor of the city, he wouldn’t have done anything anyway,” Tessa complained.
“Even though you have lacked respect for the young master, I must admit that you are right. The young master has indeed wasted his time and has become a huge disappointment to me.”
I fell to my knees immediately. Losing this golden opportunity will be the worst thing to ever happen to me. I have to get back on my feet and this is the only way to do it.
“Old man Lee, I am sorry for disappointing you. Please, give me one last chance to prove myself again,” I plead with him.
The old man soothes his white beards without saying any word. My heart is literally sunk in my stomach and a devastating fear grips me.
“Fine. I will give you a second chance to prove your worth to me but if you fail me again, I will not only eliminate Spencer but you too. Meanwhile, the primary election will be coming up soon. I will do everything in my power to make you an eligible candidate for the main election but you must eliminate Spencer before then. If you fail to complete your task, I will turn my back on you then end your story.”
The old man Lee was one of the most dangerous, underground business moguls that reigned in the city. But after the incident that happened twenty years ago, he went down and thanks to my mismanagement, he went bankrupt too. I can’t afford to lose my chances with him again.
“Yes, old man Lee,” I replied with determination.
He laughed wickedly as he left the living room, leaving Tessa and I alone. Turning to Tessa, I give her a death glare.
“Let this be the last time you will speak against me in front of old man Lee or anyone. The mission to eliminate Spencer is mine and mine alone. You are just a puppet of mine that will be used to hasten the mission but don’t give yourself any credits for it. One step backwards from you and you are gone, do you understand me?”
Tessa bowed humbly with a remorseful expression on her face. “Yes, young master,” she replied calmly and exited the living room.

** Sydney **“I can’t believe that I slept with him!” I exclaimed with a loud voice.Lydia groaned and shook her head. “It is not a big deal, Syd. It’s not like Aiden is going to know if you slept with someone else or not, he probably won’t even care if you did. Just let it go,” she said.“Not a big deal? Lydia, I can’t believe that this is coming from you!” I exhaled in frustration.I stood up and paced around the bedroom with my hands on my waist. I am feeling guilty about it and my mind is not at rest. How can I sleep with a random guy who I just met in less than twenty four hours? I am still married for goodness sake! What if Aiden finds out about Joyceline and her lies, then decides to get back together with me? This would blow up the chances that I have to reunite with my husband.“Look, Sydney. Aiden cheated on you with Joyceline, your best friend. You go to the club and sleep with someone, take it as a good scope for revenge.”“There is nothing like revenge on this one. I neve
I whistle in excitement as I get ready to go shopping for my baby stuff. Lydia was at work so I would be going alone, she was actually the one who had convinced me to do this today. I feel more fresh than ever as I step out in baggy pants and a crop top, my stomach is as flat as ever and no one will even suspect that I am pregnant. I head to the biggest baby mall in the city. It’s quite expensive but the money I have is able to purchase whatever I want from the mall. All of this is for my baby and I can’t wait to see how my pregnancy journey will be.Whistling my favourite song, I enter the mall and request for a checklist from the receptionist. The checklist helps first time mothers to know exactly what they want to buy for their babies - the necessary things exactly.Seeing that diapers and wipes are first on the list, I walk around the mall to look for their section. It took me a few minutes to locate it and I began to stock my basket with loads of diapers.Someone clears their th
** Spencer **I relax inside the walls of the magnificent office, which is decorated to my taste. There is a glass demarcation with the other small space being carved out as my personal assistant’s office. Even with the sharing of space, I am satisfied with the size of my own office. This proves how much progressive my company has made over the years of my absence. I sighed in relief that things were turning out well for me in the business industry, but the untold shadows of my past were lurking around my mind. I can feel it.While I have not been contacted by anyone from my past, I feel like it would be best if I don’t come across any of them ever again. Because right now, I can feel the rage as it burns inside me. I call myself a coward for running away in the first place. I should have stood my ground and took back what belonged to me.“Spencer?” A female voice called my name softly. The first person that comes into my mind is Sydney. I have been thinking about her ever since we h
“Max, do you think that Miriam really meant what she said?” I asked in deep thoughts.“About what?”“Getting married to me if she clocks thirty and is still single.”Max groaned in frustration. “Did you fall for that crap?”I ruffle my hair in confusion. Even though Miriam had debunked whatever she had just said, covering it up as a joke. I still have that feeling that she was dead serious about it. I got the chills because I’m aware that Miriam likes me, not just as a friend anymore. The likeness is slowly becoming more intimate but the issue is that it’s coming from her side, not mine.My heart has fluttered for only one woman and she was Sydney. The one night stand wasn’t like others that I forgot about easily. This one was still fresh in my mind and made me feel hard anytime I remember how beautiful her moans were. So even if Miriam opened several doors of opportunities for me to date her, I would choose Sydney one thousand times over her.Don’t get me wrong - I value my friendsh
I stared nervously at myself in the mirror. I was scared - so scared - that I was going to make a tragic mistake and ruin everything. I don’t want to blow this up, this could be the only chance I have and closest to getting an interview let alone a job.Lydia entered the bedroom with a cup of tea - drinking coffee is strictly forbidden - and handed me a cup with a nod of approval as she assessed my appearance.“You look like the typical personal assistant,” Lydia said.“Are you sure that they are going to like my dress at all?” I asked nervously.“For goodness sake, you are going to an interview, not a date.”“But the skirt looks bigger on me, like the overall uniform of an apprentice,” I complained.Lydia sighed. “You are pregnant, Sydney. It’s not advisable to wear tight clothes to avoid certain circumstances that might not be good. Listen to me, you are perfect and I’m sure that if you worry less about your appearance and focus more on building your confidence, you will get the job.
“Great! You can meet with Betty at the reception centre for more information about your new job,” he grinned at me and stood, returning to his chair and turning back to look at whatever it was.“Thank you,” I muttered and stumbled out. This interview was an intense one and I still feel hot from his close proximity. “How did it go?” Betty asked when she saw me.“I got the job. He said that I should meet you for more details,” I said, trying hard to contain my excitement. “Congratulations, Sydney,” Betty said.“Thanks.”“So here is what you need to know. Spencer Group Limited is one of the best business corporations in our city and since our CEO is back officially, double efforts will have to be made in order to keep the comps running on the top. Here is a daily schedule for your weekly activities, anything other important schedule or appointment will be conveyed to you later ,” Betty explained.I collected the paper and went through it carefully. “Thank you for this,” I said.Betty w
“What?” I asked. Fear has engulfed me and my voice has surrendered to the fear that was in me.I don't understand why he is acting this way. Just last week, he was wrapped around my body and banging me like his life depended on it, he was also sweet and warm to me. Now, he was cold and I merely recognize him as the man I fucked last week. Snapping back to the present, I listen to him as he vents his anger on me.“What the hell is this?” He repeated angrily.I gulped and replied, “I served you coffee.”Spencer slammed his hand on the desk and groaned in frustration, he gave me a few murderous glares and I felt like the earth should open up and swallow me whole. We stayed in an awkward silence for about five minutes before Spencer spoke out, this time his voice was calm.“I don't drink black and bland coffee like the one you prepared for me. I prefer creamy coffees with a measured amount of sugar in them and it must be warm - always warm and mushy. Do you know why I like my coffee to be
I walked into Spencer's with the most dreaded fear on my face. The lady who I clashed with earlier was staring at me with a mocking smile on her face. He should have briefed on the fact that he already has a girlfriend which I thought was the reason why he was suddenly acting cold towards me.“You asked me to come to your office, sir,” I said forcefully as I stood in front of them.“Yes. Miriam was telling me about how rude you spoke to her earlier today, why?” He asked. So Miriam was her name, huh? I thought in my mind. It was obvious since she was his girlfriend, whatever I said was never going to be a solid reason for her complaints. Nevertheless, I had to reply to him.“I'm deeply sorry for what happened. It was a simple misunderstanding between the both of us,” I replied.“Misunderstanding? You were acting like you are the boss here!” Miriam accused.“I wasn't aware that you portrayed my character like that, it wasn't in my intention to get such a bad impression from you.”She w
