Chapter Nine
Friday was surprisingly uneventful, though I was thankful. Ryan told me he was taking me to dinner Saturday evening but it was a surprise where we were going. I really didn’t care for surprises, but it was Ryan. How bad could it be? When I sat with Ryan at lunch, Kelsey simply sat at another table, obviously not happy about seeing me with Ryan, but she kept her mouth shut for once.
Zak didn’t comment once on Ryan and I, making good on his promise, until the very end of the day when we were waiting for the bell to ring. “Are you nervous about your date tomorrow?” He says with his eyes on the floor.
“No, not really. Should I be?”

The next morning I left for work before my dad had gotten out of bed, making it easy to avoid him. I wasn’t sure how he would be after last night's events. The next few weeks flew by. Zak and I had barely spoken, while Ryan and I had spent quite a bit of time together. Ryan was true to his word, and has yet to pressure me for anything more. I found myself actually growing fond of Ryan. I woke up late the next morning from lack of sleep and quickly got ready, ignoring my dad as he demanded something for breakfast. For the next few days, I stayed in bed unless I had to work. It seemed silly being so upset over a guy I was never with, but I couldn't help but feel like I left a part of my soul with him when I said goodbye. Would I even see him again? I was engulfed in darkness when I hit the murky water before I finally emerged at the surface. I wiped my eyes, hoping I didn’t smear my makeup too much.
