Chapter 5: He's my husband?

"Where is she? Is it true that she's awake?" Cassandra, walked into the long hall briskly with Jacob, Sophia's father, their faces a mixture of frantic and excitement. After a long time of waiting they would finally get to see their daughter awake again.

Caden slowly closed the door behind him since they were making an awful lot of sound and he didn't want to accidentally wake Sophia up.

His face was somewhat pale, the veins in his forehead popping, which didn't escape the eyes of his in-laws that was standing just in front of him.

"Caden, what's happening. Is it true? Did she really wake up?" Jacob asked, his voice laced with worry seeing Caden's reaction to their question. He kept a hawk like gaze at Caden, adamant to know his daughter's situation.

"She woke up." Caden said briefly.

"Oh thank god. Let us see her then..." Cassandra tried to get inside but Caden didn't budge and stood in front of the door, not minding the scrutinizing gaze the two were giving him.

"Step aside Caden. We want to see our daughter." Jacob ordered with authority in his voice, but Caden still didn't move.

He eventually cleared his throat and stood straight and released a sharp breath, before stepping aside.

...

Inside, Sophia was stuck in an endless pit of dream. She kept murmuring something in her sleep, it was inaudible and were slur, then her body suddenly jolted, her eyes opening abruptly as she sat down on the bed looking left and right, and just like before, the lights made her head ache.

She cupped her head from pain as she struggled to remove the blanket. She got off from the hospital bed barefoot and walked with faltering steps to the door wanting to ask for help, since the medicine that she took was still in effect making her body a bit out of control.

He vision was hazy, and when she finally reached the door, she grabbed the knob but unfortunately fell to her knees.

"H-help..." She mustered all her strength to ask for help but her body and voice wouldn't cooperate.

She then felt a slight nudge in her body, and the door opening, making her let go, she looked up and she saw the man who instantly made her blood boil.

"You! Y-you're the reason why I'm like this!" Sophia yelled lowly, and Caden who was shocked to see her in the floor felt like his heart just dropped upon hearing what she said.

"Sophia! Honey, are you okay?" Jacob and Cassandra immediately went to Sophia's side to aid her and help her up.

Caden on the other hand was totally frozen on the spot, his eyes dilating and his fist clenching.

"What do you mean honey?" Jacob asked glaring at Caden.

"What does she mean? What did you do to our daughter?!" He yelled in anger, thinking that Jacob must have done something horrible to her without their knowledge.

"H-he..." Sophia grabbed her father's shoulders, losing her strength, "That jerk there made the nurses put something in me. We should call the police and throw him in prison. He wants to do something bad to me." She said, out of breathe, her eyes stuck like a hawk at Caden's figure, who's face was staring at her with undescribable emotions circling in his eyes.

Both Jacob and Cassandra were flabbergasted hearing what she said.

"Honey, what are you talking about? Don't you know who that man is?" Cassandra kneeled down, cupping her face. Sophia shook her head, confused why her mother would ask her that.

"W-what do you mean. I don't know who the hell he is. Please I want to go home." She pleaded. Jacob helped her back to her bed, making sure she was okay.

Not long after, the door bursted open and the doctor earlier along with a nurse walked in, their faces clear with horror upon seeing the commotion inside.

"You!" Jacob pointed at the doctor. "What is wrong with my daughter, why can't she remember Caden?" He asked, and the doctor gulped a huge amount of saliva before walking closer to them with trembling knees.

"I'm sorry Mr. Williams, but I can please check something first." He asked.

"Make it quick." Jacob answered demandingly.

On the side, Caden just watched everything happen silently, while looking at Sophia the whole time, his expression dark.

'She doesn't remember me...I guess that's a good thing then.' He folded his arms looking as the doctor asked Sophia something.

"Miss Williams, can you hear me?" He asked, and Sophia who was in a terrible mood just nodded her head and flopped her body back on the bed.

"Yeah, just tell me what's going on. Why am I here?" She asked, groaning.

"Do you remember them, you're parents?"

"Of course, what is your problem? Why are you asking me all these?!" Sophia's voice raised from frustration.

"And, ummm, him...do you remember him? Any at all?" The doctor said slowly, not wanting to anger the man who was sulking on the back of the room.

Everyone's head turned to Caden, and Sophia sighed as she stared at the man, this time, longer making her examine all of his features. His wavy black hair and green eyes that seems to captivate her as she explored his face, and when her eyes moved down, she noticed just how muscular his body was.

'He must live at the gym...' She thought before shaking her head, 'What the...What am I thinking these crazy things in my head!'

She turned her head up and shook her head at the doctor. "I don't know him." She said straight, and the doctor nodded his head, his face falling, as he wrote down his observations.

"I'm sorry to tell you this. But she seems to have suffered a selective memory loss. It's usually caused by traumatic experiences." He said, and Sophia's parents gasped hearing the news.

Sophia's face crunched hearing what the doctor said, "What memory loss? What are you all talking about?" She sat back straight, her brows furrowed.

"Honey, do you really not remember Caden at all?" Cassandra asked, stroking her daughters head, tears pooling in her eyes.

Caden gradually approached the bed, his footsteps heavy every step he took.

"No. Why who is he? Is he someone I know?" She asked.

"I'm your husband." Caden announced, making Sophia's eyes lit up.

'What does he mean he's my husband? I'm married?!"

Her mind was in a whirl. And for some reason, she can't explain the overwhelming feeling of his presence. It was like it was making all parts of her body go on a haywire, sending bolts of shocks in her spine.

Caden stood in front of her, and leaned down, his eyes dangerous, wanting to get something off his chest.

"If you don't remember me. Then do you also not remember what happened before the crash?" He asked, his green orbs staring intensely at her.

Sophia momentarily went quiet, shifting on her bed, falling into Caden's undeniable charm, although she could sense danger was reeking out of him, but she couldn't help but admire him.

'What's wrong with me? Why do I feel like this?' She suddenly clenched her chest, feeling her heart beat faster every passing second.

"Soph, I'm asking you a question." Caden said with a low voice, raising her chin with his hand to close her slightly parted mouth.

He couldn't help but observe her, she was way different from the woman he usually sees everyday, this Sophia that was in front of him was somehow different, her eyes were honest, unlike the one before who always masks her emotions.

"N-no..." Sophia stuttered.

They both stared at each other for minutes, their gaze locked at each other like two unmoving mountains. Not one was willing to turn their eyes away. Disregarding everyone in the room, as if it was only them inside.

'If she doesn't remember me. Then am I free?'

What a selfish jerk. After he nearly kills her now he wants to abandon her. Typical selfish, self-centered jerk.
