Chapter 3

*Astrid's POV*

“How's she? Isn't she supposed to be awake now? She's been out for two days.”

“There's nothing for you to worry about Alpha, she's fine and besides, she wasn't in a good state when you brought her in, plus let's not forget the fact that she's with child too, she needs all the rest she can get and her reports states that everything is fine, and she's stable, so there's nothing for you to worry about.”

“Why are you bothering yourself about someone you don't even know! And why bring a pregnant woman into this pack! I do not approve of this, Lucas.”

“You have no say in this matter, Crystal. I am the Alpha and you have no right to tell me who I can help or not help. It'll be best if you leave, since your presence is not needed here.”

This was the conversation I heard, and I slowly opened my eyes but closed them immediately due to the brightness of the light.

I waited a while for my eyes to adjust to the lights before opening them again, I looked around to see myself in a hospital and I saw a man and the doctor still having a conversation about me.

I tried to recall what happened and how I ended up here, but my head was simply blank and I couldn't remember anything. The last thing I remember was seeing a man and then passing out, after that, I had no idea what took place next.

The doctor suddenly looked at me and when our eyes met, she gasped. “Alpha! She's awake.” She said, and they both rushed to me.

“Hey, how are you feeling? Do you feel pain anywhere? Is there anything you need?” The man she referred to as Alpha questioned in one breath.

I recognized him to be the man who had saved me earlier.

“She just regained consciousness, Alpha, don't you think she needs the breathing space first before blasting her with questions.” The doctor chuckled.

“You, you were the one who saved me.” I said to the man and he smiled.

“I'm Lucas Falcon, Alpha of the Wild Crest Pack, and this is Tory, the pack doctor.” He introduced.

“My name is Astrid, thank you so much, thank you for saving me.'' I said, and then I took notice of the other lady standing behind the Alpha.

The look she gave me made me wonder if I had done anything to offend her because I could tell that she didn't like me one bit.

When Lucas noticed where I was staring at, he instantly introduced her to me.

“This is Crystal, a friend of mine.” He said, and Crystal scoffed loudly.

“So I'm now a friend, huh? How pathetic!” She spat, she gave me a look filled with hate and disgust, then she left.

Lucas sighed deeply. “I want to apologize for that, please pardon her.” He pleaded and I shook my head negatively.

“You don't have to apologize, I guess she's just upset.”

“That still doesn't give her the right to behave so rudely to our guest, I'll see to it that it doesn't happen again.''

“Oh please, don't scold her because of me, I wouldn't want her being even more mad at me than she already is.”

“She's right Alpha, you know Crystal, she'll come around soon.” Dr. Tory added.

“Fine then, if you two insist.” Lucas said in surrender.

Dr. Tory carried one last check up on me and after confirming that everything was okay and my baby too, she then left, leaving just me and Lucas alone.

“You must be hungry, I'll go get you something to eat.” Lucas said, and before I had the chance to say thank you, he stood up and left.

When Lucas left, I spent some time talking to my baby and even apologized once more for what happened.

It didn't take long for Lucas to arrive with a bag containing food, I thanked him, and then I immediately opened the bag and took out the food, the aroma only made me realize how hungry I was.

I instantly began doing justice to the food, since I was starving.

Lucas said nothing, he simply watched me eat, a lovely smile plastered on his face.

When I was done, he helped me clean up, and I was so surprised that a stranger would do so much for me, someone I had just met, but all the same, I was grateful for his help.

Lucas never left my side throughout that day and when he asked me about myself, I couldn't speak at first due to how much pain I was still in.

“You don't have to say anything if you don't want to, Astrid, I'm sorry I asked.” He immediately apologized when he saw me crying.

“No it's fine, after all, you did save my life, and it's only right I tell you about myself.” I wiped off my tears and forced a smile. “It's just…things have been very difficult for me, and that's the reason I left my pack.” I then explained everything that happened to him.

By the time I was done, Lucas couldn't hide the anger he felt.

“I must say that your mate is a very foolish man for letting you go, he's a coward that doesn't deserve you one bit!” He spat.

''I just hope you'll be able to relax now, nothing bad is going to happen to you, not while I'm here."

I looked into his eyes and saw he meant every single word he said.

“Trust me, I will protect you, and I'll assist you in raising your baby, I'll take them as my own and make sure you both get the peaceful and amazing life you deserve, you have nothing to worry about, I'm here for you Astrid, trust me.” He added.

I didn't even realize that I was in tears until he wiped off my tears with his fingertips.

“You must have gone through a lot.” He stated. “Well you need not worry anymore, here in the wild crest pack, you should fear nothing, no one can hurt you now, I'm right here, and I'm going to protect you.” He promised.

His voice was so soothing to my ears, the words he said brought me peace.

For the first time in a while, I felt at peace.

No one has ever said those words to me, but here's this stranger who knows nothing about me but is willing to protect me.

I blessed the moon goddess for bringing me to a man like Lucas and true to his word, he did protect me and eventually…

Lucas became a huge part of me.
