I woke up early and did my morning run at Runyon Canyon. After an hour, I headed to Hollywood downtown to have my breakfast at The Bagel’s Coffee house- my favorite coffee shop in LA. Aside from having a tasteful bagel, they're also making a pure organic coffee that could satisfy my cravings at a very low cost. I used to spend my time at the place after my exercise.
“Davis' Construction Group of Companies signed a contract with the US Engineering Department for a billion-dollar Subway Project” written on the front page of a newspaper.
After all the years, they managed to be the leading construction firm in Europe and the US. I could say they're good at hiding their anomalies. I took the time to read the contents while sipping my aromatic coffee.
I found out that they belong to top global companies that earned more than a million dollars per month. My anger grew bigger because they don't deserve success after what they've done to my father.
"World is round and I know it won't last forever," I was angered. I gritted my teeth and crumpled the newspaper before I left for home.
When I reached my apartment, I quickly prepped myself for work in a white polo sleeve uniform that perfectly fits my body. I paired my knee-length black pencil-cut skirt with black high heels and put light makeup as a requirement for us to look presentable especially in dealing with different guests.
I arrived at my workplace thirty minutes early and got confused seeing the restaurant’s setup. From the table arrangement, lights and others - it was completely different from the previous days. My colleagues were so busy doing their work which made it hard for me to approach them.
“Are we hosting an event?" I asked Aira out of curiosity. “You don't know?" she furrowed her brows and I shook my head hastily.
She explained that months ago, Mr. and Mrs. Wilson decided to sell the restaurant because they are migrating to Italy to spend time with their children.
“Are you sure? I thought they love this restaurant so much," I couldn't reckon what she unveiled. She expounded that because the owners are too old to take care of the establishment, they need to let go.
She added that the previous day, the papers were signed and transferred to the new owner. She informed me that we have a new boss and we need to hurry setting up because he will arrive in a few. I nodded before she resumed her work.
I went to my locker to put my things before helping them. Everyone was rushing and seemed like they don’t want to get embarrassed in front of the new boss. I chose to clean the windows and the door even though it didn't look dirty.
“I heard that our new boss is handsome and hot. I can’t wait to see him,” Hailey giggled and smiled at me. “Let’s hope that he isn't strict and will still allow us to work as part-timers," I told her not minding what she had said. Not long, our Branch Manager Mr. Harris alerted us that the new boss has arrived.
“Kelsie, how do I look? Is my hair okay? Are my eyebrows properly shaded?" Hailey kept on murmuring and asking about her looks but I just laughed in return. “You look good Hailey, stop wiggling!" I whispered back.
“Good afternoon Mr. Davis, Welcome to LA’Belle,” Mr. Harris was in vivid spirits. I did not pay attention because Hailey kept on complaining about her looks.
My focus was still on Hailey when “And this is Kelsie, one of our dining staff here,” I stilled when I heard someone cough in front of me. My heart pulsated fast when I met those familiar eyes again.
“ Oh God!” my eyes widened not able to utter a word. The man in front of me was the arrogant devil from the previous day. “G-good Morning Sir!” I stuttered and avoided his gaze.
“Miss, did you attend your training on how to properly welcome people?” I saw the smugness on his face. I know he was trying to humiliate me because of our disgusting encounter.
“I’m sorry Sir,” I apologized and tried to control my emotion. He was staring at me while he informed Mr. Harris of the things that he wanted to check. But before he could leave in front of me, he whispered something and I was stunned for a moment.
“Small world isn’t it, Ms. Car Scratcher?” were the words and left to inspect the kitchen as well as his new office. I was baffled because I know that I was doomed! "What should I do?" Lord, help me!" I called for heavens.
I was back to my senses when Hailey wiggled on my arms “Oh my God! Did you see that Kelsie? I told you he’s so hot! He's the definition of perfection! I want to be caged in his embrace forever” she said dreamingly.
“Shut up Hailey, he will never like you. Stop dreaming!” Aira interrupted her. “Aira, you’re such a killjoy! Don’t worry, I’ll find you a sugar daddy to stop your bitterness. She mocked her. Grumpy!
I kept on laughing at them even my heart was hammering erratically inside. “Both of you are crazy! Let's get to work!" I announced.
After the introduction and inspection, the restaurant resumed its operation. I was about to serve the orders for the customers when I heard Mr. Harris call my name.
“Mr. Harris, how can I help?” I asked him in a lively manner though I was worried about the new boss.
“I want you to bring this food to Mr. Brent. I heard he hasn't eaten lunch yet,” my eyes widened and I got nervous at his request.
“C.. can Aira or Hailey do that instead, Mr. Harris?” I tried to convince him but I had no luck.
"Mr. Harris, don't get me wrong, I mean,.." I was still talking but he cut me off.
“Just follow my order Kelsie, will you?!” Irritated, he left and I was dumbfounded. I sighed because I know I had no other choice.
My heart was beating fast like a horse in a race as I stood in front of the devil's office door. His secretary's table was empty and I had to personally give him the food. I knocked on his door about three times before I heard him say, “Come in!".
As soon as I entered his office, I saw him talking to someone while facing the window. “Yes Hunter, please check that also, thanks man I owe you for this," that's what I heard. The first thing I noticed was the luxury scent that smells good and I know it was him. His office is a combination of Grey and black colors that looks so manly, there were no other things aside from the black couch, his office table, and a painting. When he turned around and sighted my presence, the smirk did not go unnoticed. “So, what can I do for you, Ms. Car Scratcher?” he asked while looking at me intently. “M... Mr. Harris r...requested me to give this to you,” I trailed off as I was uneased. He twisted his lips and raised his left brow at me without breaking our eye contact. “I’ll just put it here,” and pointed at his table. “I will go back to my work,” I avoided his gaze and turned towards the door quickly. However, before I could reach for the kno
“Here’s your coffee, Mr. Davis,” I placed the cup on the right side of his table. It was only 11:30 in the morning but I already served him his second cup of coffee. I couldn't stop myself to think if he's trying to kill himself of too much caffeine. Tsk! He was so busy reading a document but I took the courage to ask about what he wants for lunch. I needed to inform Mr. Harris ahead of time because it was his instruction to me. “No, don’t bother I’m fine with this coffee,” his attention was focused on the document. I think he was studying the restaurant's status and financial report but he should not skip his meal. “Are you sure? You should eat real food. Too much coffee isn't good for our body,” He looked at me with those deep and captivating eyes. It Seemed he was suppressing a smile and even I, did not realize I talked too much. Damn! He cleared his throat “Okay, I’ll be having pasta Farfalle Cheese. You can also order for your lunch,” my eyes wid
I wore a seductive dress to impress him but I guess my plan did not work. He got pissed rather than being seduced and I felt awful about it. That was bizarre! The first thing I did after that conversation was served his coffee. Then I checked all the emails, appointments and compiled the necessary documents for his signature. I made sure to sort all the pending of Lauren. I didn't want to pile up errands on my plate. I was so busy finishing other documents when Kate, the senior finance officer came in holding a folder with a contagious smile on her face. "Hi, Kelsie," she winked and I smiled at her in return. “Is Mr. Davis in his office? Can you give this to him?" she handed me the documents which I politely accepted. She said it's the additional documents related to the financial records of the company and Mr. Davis requested to see it for review. “Sure Miss Kate, no problem,” I responded and she turned her back after thanking me.
"Kelsie, would you mind if we drop by a restaurant to have some dinner?" he spoke calmly. I stilled because I didn't know what to say. "Dinner?" I asked him back with furrowed brows in confusion. "Yeah," he confirmed. I wanted to refuse but when I thought of my plan, I realized that would be a good opportunity. Besides, I felt famished listening to my professor. "Alright," I replied like a whisper and I saw him suppressed a smile before we drove off. “I know a restaurant around here that you will love,” he started a conversation and I just nodded at him. “How’s your class? Are you not having a hard time dealing with work and studies?" He sounded normal like talking to a friend. Honestly, the personality that I was seeing greatly puzzled me. I cleared my throat “I’m used to it, Mr. Davis," I replied shortly but decided to elaborate a bit. "I need to work hard to earn a degree for a better future". “I admire you for t
That moment in his car was unforgettable. I couldn’t fathom why he acted that way. As I recalled that night, I got out of his car without saying anything. My heart was beating too fast as if it's going out of my rib and my head was spinning because of uneasiness. Maybe I was bewildered the moment I heard him say the word "Baby". Or am I dreaming that night? I was stupid! I felt embarrassed because I wasn’t able to say thank you to him for the dinner treat and for driving me home. Yeah, I was ungrateful. The next day, I wanted to apologize for the way I acted that night but he did not arrive in the office. Based on his schedule, he doesn’t have any meetings or events scheduled on that day. I thought it was something personal. On a Saturday, I attended my least favorite subject. I felt so lazy and not in high spirits. No matter how much I tried to erase him in my mind, I couldn't. “Focus Kelsie, you need to stick on your plan,” my mind kept on r
I was quite occupied by a lot of books I needed to read and study. It was necessary to finish reviewing all because of my schedule at work. My course required a lot of readings, writing pleadings, as well as researching facts, issues, and legal basis in a certain case. I felt thankful that no Brent barged my Sunday. I couldn’t think of any idea about my next step in revenge every time he’s near me. On a Monday, I was rushing towards the elevator as I don’t want to be late on the first day of the week. I was about to enter the lift when I accidentally bumped into a man holding a cup of coffee. “I’m sorry, I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to..." I couldn’t finish my sentence because of too much tension. I kept on wiping his shirt and the coffee stain spread awfully. “Ms. It’s okay. It was an accident,” he smiled at me and my brows furrowed in wonderment. I couldn't believe he did not get angry with me. I looked at his face and I find him handsome. A dimple was vi
True to his words, Brent took me home that day. Days passed but still, I was confused about his treatment with me. On a Saturday, I invited Aira and Hailey to Santa Monica Place. Been a while since the three of us had our bond. Studies and work occupied us that we seldom see each other. The three of us are in the same year but with different courses. Aira chose to take Finance because figures are her piece of cake. Hailey opted to take Fashion Designs and evidently, she loves to dress a lot. From choosing her shoes to her hair, she has this sense of fashion after all, and her course suits well with her personality. “Kelsie my friend!” I heard a high-pitch voice and could recognize her even with my eyes closed. I was surprised when she dyed her hair blue-green and she looked good in it. Her skin became brighter because it complimented her hair color. “Wow, grassy hair!" I teased and suppressed a laugh. “I hate you, Kelsie! I thought you’re my f
After a month, I could say that every day was bliss for me. Brent became clingy since that night he confessed his feelings. I recalled how he kissed me passionately that I couldn't help but moan as his lips dominated my small cavern. I felt like floating in the air because of how high he took me with those kisses. My desk was transferred inside his office and it's convenient because he doesn’t need to call me thru the intercom. It was nearly three o’clock in the afternoon and I got nothing to do since Brent was out for a meeting for the expansion of the restaurant. I decided to get my phone and took selfies to kill the boredom. I browsed for some of my old photos and a lot of memories flashed in my mind. I saw a picture of dad and me which was taken during my 15th birthday. We were so happy back then, my dad was my hero. He showered me with so much love and provided everything I needed growing up. However, those things vanished the moment he
