Chapter 4

From behind.

The man walked towards the door, and her aunt greeted him warmly. He apologized for showing up unannounced, but her aunt assured him that it was fine. Then, his gaze fell on Avery, and his eyes widened in surprise.

"You must be Avery," he said, his voice a little shaky. "It's a pleasure to finally meet you."

Avery didn't know what to say. She had so many questions, and she didn't know where to start. She just stood there, frozen, staring at the man who was supposed to be her father.

"Let's go inside and talk," her aunt said, leading the man into the house.

Avery was still frozen in place, her thoughts racing. The men outside, dressed in dark suits and sunglasses, stood guard at the door.

They looked serious and intimidating, and Avery felt a shiver run down her spine.

Slowly, she followed the man and her aunt inside the house. They all sat down in the living room, and the tension in the air was palpable.
