I stopped when I saw who was talking to Megan, my heart pounding loudly in my chest. It was Janette , the woman I wanted to forget forever. Why was she here? And why the heck was she talking to Megan?

I approached them, my face cold. “What are you doing here, Janette ?”

The venomous snake turned to me with a smile and tried to hug me, but I stepped back, hardening my frown. “I won’t ask again, Janette ,” I said between my teeth. The veins in my head were already throbbing.

Janette looked around in fake concern, then she leaned closer, whispering loudly. “I don’t think we should be talking here; others might hear.”

I clenched my fists, but I couldn’t deny that she was right; soon all the other board members would be coming in, and everyone knew me with Janette .

Grounding my jaws, I turned back after telling Janette , “Come with me.”
