A Greater Enemy

Damien's POV.

"Natalie can't be dead," the woman cried after I told her everything that transpired.

"She was like a daughter to me, oh that poor child," She cried harder, taking her hand to her chest and slowly slumping to the floor.

Although I never had the chance to know my daughter well, I was still hurt by her death. I never got a chance to talk to her, know her favorite color, or even celebrate a single birthday with her.

My heart shattered all over again when I recalled how she lay lifelessly in the arms of her mother and the most heart-wrenching part of the situation was the fact that I couldn't do anything to save her.

I came too late. I should have blackmailed my father sooner, he might have left me alone and I might have had a chance to rescue her and Elise from pain.

As these thoughts ran through my mind, tears stung my eyes. I quickly blinked away my tears and darted my eyes to the doorway where Elise entered.
