Chapter 30

~Ace~

Natalie contacted me some time ago and said she had arrived at the place we had agreed upon—an old house on the forest's edge. Natalie mentioned the area in detail, so I found it easily.

"Is this the place?" Ben asked as he turned the car into the yard.

The dim light seemed to illuminate the inside of the house, while outside, it was dark except for the moonlight. I saw a van parked on the right side of the yard. The car's body, damaged in several places, assured me we were in the right place.

"Yes, we're here," I answered and opened the door.

As I stepped onto the ground, I felt my heart skip a beat. The smell of wet earth pierced my nose. I took a deep breath, and I could feel it. It's such a strong smell that I miss it so much.

I swayed my feet, stepping on the damp earth beneath. My eyes dart around. I cannot let my guard down. Danger could come from anywhere. Jared Waltz might have gotten to this place first. So I had to stay alert.
