Sixty-Nine

Natalia was scared to death. She broke into uncontrollable sobs and dialed Adonis's line like a maniac. His number wasn't reachable, and neither was Fred's.

"Breathe, Natalia, breathe," she said to herself, but she couldn't stop thinking about that dreadful call—her mom's screams that pierced her heart, Sophia's cold words.

That bastard was capable of killing her mother, and she knew it. Her words kept playing on repeat:

"You have two hours to bring Iris to me or get ready to say goodbye to your mother."

Natalia didn't understand what she had done wrong to deserve this and why Sophia was so cold and calculating. She screamed herself hoarse and fell to the ground, flapping her hands.

There was a time limit, and each second that passed elevated her fear. She felt like her heart was being squeezed, and her mind jumped from one negative thought to another. She couldn't do anything but wail.
