(Kaeleigh’s POV)
It wasn’t until I saw Jeremy’s reaction, and then Elaina breaking down right there on the floor, that I realised that I still didn’t quite believe it. I was stopping it from sinking in, protecting myself from the hurt. But seeing their confirmation, that was enough. I ran to the cell, and he smiled at me before I hugged him through the bars.
“It’s you,” I cried. “It’s really you?”
“Yeah, it’s me,” he held me tight, and I buried my head in his shoulder, and breathed in the scent that I hadn’t smelt in over nineteen years, that I thought I would never smell again.
“I didn’t want to believe it, until I knew for certain,”
(Chase’s POV)“The rest of you go home and get some rest”I was ready to set off with Kaeleigh in my arms. I just wanted to get her away from Adam. I didn’t like the way he looked at her, and certainly didn’t trust him around her. I could have put it down to being a possessive mate, but my dad linked me right there, and I could tell that I wasn’t the only one thinking of it.“Once you are free I want a meeting. Something isn’t right,” and I nodded before heading off out the door to take Kaeleigh home. There was a car waiting outside the detention centre and I climbed in the back, keeping her on my knee. I could tell she was falling asleep from the change in her breathing pattern and in the couple of minute
**** Trigger Warning **** The following chapter contains content of a distressing nature. Details of sexual and physical assault are included in the chapter.(Kaeleigh’s POV)The next week or so was busy. Chase told me that he wanted me to train with Zack so I could build my self defence up. Luna Elise wanted to spend time teaching me all the Luna duties and a sudden new big deal came up at work between Rose Bower International and us.I was struggling to fit in the time to go see Jonathan, and part of me suspected that was the plan. I had a feeling that Chase was purposely having my schedule filled up, so I couldn’t see Jonathan. I got that he was just trying to protect me, but it was starting to get overbearing. Even if part of me does think he is right.
(Kaeleigh’s POV)I watched in fear as Brandt’s large blond wolf form stalked slowly towards me. I could feel his eyes burning into me as he barred his teeth and let out a low snarl. I tried to inch slowly backwards, but he saw and growled louder.Everything inside me screamed at me to run, but I knew I wasn’t going to get anywhere. I could feel my ankle throbbing and I could see that it was already beginning to swell slightly. I knew it was going to be a bitch to walk on. I tore my eyes away from the vicious animal who was out for my blood to survey my options.Option one: sit here and wait for him to reach me and rip out my throat. Yeah, pass on that. Option two: jump up and run for the door behind me, hoping that it was unlocked, and that my ankle wasn’t broken and could take my weigh
(Kaeleigh’s POV)I was released from the hospital the next day, with an almost healed leg, but strict orders to rest it for another month before starting back up with training. I was ready to go when Jensen walked into the room.“Hey princess,” he said grinning at me. I looked expectedly behind him.“Where’s Chase?” I asked. I was kinda expecting him to be the one to pick me up.“Sorry Kae,” he said. “He’s in a meeting with the Alpha right now. There’s been some concern that they are trying to sort out.” he picked up my bag with a guarded look on his face. “but don’t worry, princess, I’ll take good care of you.” He wriggled his eyebrows, and I laughed.
(Kaeleigh’s POV)“Who else?” I demanded and Chase sighed..“We don’t know baby,” he answered, “but since we pulled the confirmed families in, we have had almost a hundred pack members leave the territory and denounce the pack.”“A hundred!” I exclaimed. The Beta then turned round and punched the wall, and roared. I jumped, and Chase stood up in front of me. Everyone was on edge and the tension was rising. The Beta rubbed his temple and bent down on the balls of his feet. I had never seen him look so stressed before. I put my hand in Chases. And he relaxed and sat back down.“So for now we need to lockdown,” the Alpha said. “Those o
(Jensen’s POV)“Chase” I glanced at my dad before returning my sight to my friend. The look on his face was raw. It was twisted between pain and fury and even some fear in there. If I could just get to him, then maybe I could calm him down, but I was ready to protect Kaeleigh if it was required. I moved forward to get in front of Kaeleigh. I didn’t know what was wrong with him, but I wasn’t risking it.Then the air shifted and Chase growled at me. I could tell by the way Kaeleigh dropped to the floor and the way she bowed her head in submission that she was devastated and I did everything I could to hold back a growl. Then Chase let out a roar, and I watched in shock as he picked up his father’s desk and threw it across the room. It smashed into the wall in pieces just as Chase stormed out of the room.
(Kaeleigh’s POV)I can’t be here!I just couldn’t be near him, not now! I didn’t know how long I had been crying, not long I knew that, but too long. I sat up from my pathetic self-pity party and saw that everyone was looking at me.“I can’t stay here,” I said, storming up the stairs and onto the top floor, almost bumping straight into the Luna. “I need to go.”“Kaeleigh dear what do you mean?” the Luna started to follow me as I hurried to my room.“If he can’t find me, then he can’t reject me,” I reasoned. A mate bond rejection has to be done face to face and has to be accepted by the rejected for the bond to actually be bro
(Kaeleigh’s POV)I ended up crying myself to sleep. I didn’t know how long it took, but at some point I passed out exhausted from the tears. I had nightmares of Chase chasing me down to throw me away or to kill me.When I woke up the next morning, I was a mess of tangled sheets and sweat. Kierra brought us breakfast from the dining room, so I didn’t have to see anyone. She told me that the Alpha had commanded her to tell him who she was loyal to in the hallway yesterday, and that Ivy had filled her in on why while I was asleep and that she had a meeting with the Alpha and Beta at the detention center this morning.“I don’t believe it,” she said. “Meagan is not a spy,” she was so confident in her conviction. Ivy nodded her agreement, and I agreed, as well. I might not h
