59: Concrete plan

Killian’s POV

Pacing the length of my study, I couldn't shake the image from earlier today. Orlo, my best friend, had done the unthinkable. Instead of joining me at our usual table, he had abandoned it to sit with Elaine and her friend. I ran a hand through my hair, my thoughts a chaotic mix of confusion and anger.

What the hell is Orlo thinking? I fumed silently. Why would he do that?

I replayed the scene in my mind. Elaine’s laugh, bright and clear, echoed across the cafeteria as Orlo leaned in, clearly engrossed in whatever they were discussing. The ease with which he had joined them, the smile on his face—it all made my blood boil.

For what fucking reason? What game is he playing? I wondered, clenching my fists. Orlo had always been my confidant, my closest ally. This sudden shift, this betrayal, was a knife to the heart.
