65: A cruel fate

Killian’s POV

Orlo and I walked back to the palace from the lot, he began to broach the subject of the party he was throwing at his townhouse over the weekend. I knew he was going to do this soon but hoped he won’t tell me. I am busy. I don’t want to turn him down.

"Hey, you know that party I mentioned earlier? I really think you should come," he said, his tone eager.

I hesitated, unsure whether I wanted to attend. "I don't know, Orlo. Parties aren't really my thing anymore. I have duties to attend to," I replied, trying to brush off the invitation.

But Orlo was persistent, his eyes alight with excitement. "Come on, it'll be fun. Plus, I've already invited Elaine," he said, his voice dropping slightly as he mentioned her name.

I frowned, feeling a sense of unease at the mention of Elaine. "What does she have to do with anything? You know I despise her," I asked, my curiosity piqued.
