*** It’s when I get to the lodge that I realize I’m barefoot and parts of my sweater are stained with blood from the night before, I don’t look at my room when I step inside, not the unmade bed or anything else, I don’t try to register what the faint unknown smell in the air could be. From the looks of it, seems everyone heard about the attempt, a few people came to ask me how I was feeling and to come to see them if I need to talk the day after. Though from the looks I get from Tiana, she probably wished the attempt succeeded, I don’t even have the strength to be annoyed at Sky for letting the wolf out of the bag. Training is brutal in the morning, Naya and I go over some defense moves, and I’m still somewhat annoyed at her about the day before. If she notices she doesn’t show just keep our sparing session as normal. *** The living room is empty when I walk past it, marching up the stairs to his office, excited by my idea, I knock once, then twice. When I don’t hear anything, a frown pulls at my lips. I clasped the knob, turn, and push the door open only to come up empty, where’d he go? I step inside, looking around, “Zayne?” I call out his name. When silence greets me, I roll my eyes in frustration, it’s not like he is invisible or something. Clearly, he's not here. Shit. Backing away, I hurry downstairs to the kitchen, Emma is holding a broom in the middle of tidying. “Hi, Emma” I greet “I’m sorry, do you know where Zayne might be? Stay the night. I thought about that, tossing from one side of my empty bed to the other until I slept off and when my nightmares dragged me from my sleep, I held his words like a blanket over my heart to chase away the bitter taste of fear. I’m still thinking about it as I walk through the trees in the morning, I wonder what would have happened had I stayed as he asked. “Something troubling you?” I turn to Rachel. We are on our way to our assigned spot south of the territory, when we came in for training this morning, Naya explained we will be moving to the next part of our training, so we were divided into pairs and assigned enforcers to shadow until we learned the ropes. For now, we would be cutting back on the physical aspect of our training and moving on to field experience. We still have to keep up with training though to keep our skills sharp. A gasp leaves my lips and I ach off the bed.I had felt his breath first, light my skin, his scent surrounds me, a hint of rain and amber, his weight presses against the bed, behind me? My back arched to feel more of him. Light fingertips trail down my arm and my side, it slips under the hem of my top. Heat spreads everywhere, from the points of his finger on the soft skin on my belly to my core, to my chest, between my legs, to my curled toes and my fingertips. He turns a little from the closet when I barge in, his dark hair rumpled. “Oh,” I stumble, my fingers tightening around the knob. “Sorry, I heard you were back, I wanted to say hi” I mummured shipishly. My eyes traveling around his room, there’s a black jacket draped over the chair by his bed, a crisp white shirt falls untucked from his black pants, he turns fully to face me, I must have caught him in the middle of undressing, Heat floods my cheeks. Zayne smiles at my embarrassment “Come on in” he tugs at the collar of his shirt before going for the cuffs at his wrists, undoing the right one then the left one. A light clicking sounds as he throws his cuff links on the bedside table. I release a breath as I enter the room fully, closing the door behind me silently. His fingers go to the little buttons in his shirt. He has shrugs of his shirt, tossing it to join his jacket on the chair as I close the distance between us.
