THIRTY ONE

As if the night isn’t long enough, I just have to bump onto someone on my way home. I quickly pull the brake and hop out of the car. I saw a woman, maybe around her late forties, are on the ground and her groceries are scattered all over the road.

I rushed over to her and knelt down, “I’m sorry, Ma’am. Anywhere hurts?”

“I think my ankles are sprained.” She answered quietly.

“Let me take you to the doctor.”

I try helping her to stand but she stopped me. “No, no. It’s okay. Can you just drive me home? My daughter is alone at home.”

“But your ankle needs to be treated first.”

“No, I’m fine, seriously.”

I looked at her for a few seconds before finally agreed and help her to walk towards my car.

“I’ll pick up your groceries first, Ma’am.”

I closed the door and pick up some groceries that can be saved.
