Chapter 3

Back in the luxurious suite of the Grand Hill Hotel, a man in white was standing by the window. He was holding something in his hand as he looked at the scenic view outside the window.

It was an ID tag. The words "Atlas Enterprises (Riverford Branch), finance department, Calla Sherman" were printed on it.

After a while, the door behind him opened. His assistant, Simon Beck, walked into the room. He placed a résumé on the desk and said, "Mr. Garland, here's the thing you asked for."

The man, Mercer Garland, hesitated for a moment before walking over to pick up the resume.

His gaze fell on the picture on the resume for a good while before he scanned the remaining contents. A frown appeared on his face when he finished reading the résumé.

Simon noticed the change in Mercer's expression. "Mr. Garland, I can get more detailed information for you if needed."

Mercer remained silent for some time. His gaze was fixed on the résumé. Simon knew that it meant Mercer wanted him to do just that. So, he quickly walked away to do what he said he would.

When he reached the door, he suddenly stopped in his tracks. He turned around and smiled. "Mr. Garland, do you… know the woman on the résumé?"

Mercer glared at him.

"I'll get it done immediately!" Simon understood that he had overstepped the bounds. So, he went away.

After he left, Mercer threw the résumé back onto the desk. Then, he leaned back on the chair.

The woman in the picture took his virginity so easily. He was infuriated by that fact. He was usually immune to women's seduction.

That night, it was like he was possessed by the devil…

It couldn't be! The alcohol had to be at fault. It wasn't his problem!

That damned woman even had the audacity to say that his technique was lacking. He had the urge to snap her neck just remembering that.

He shifted his gaze, and it seemed like the woman in the picture was smiling at him. He turned the résumé over in annoyance.

The HR department's work was rough. Calla was completely exhausted after two weeks.

She became the HR department's maid. She was asked to clean the tables, make coffee, and get them food… She did all the grunt work of the department.

Carter always had a sour expression when talking to her. He would always task her with pointless work that was also physically taxing.

Calla knew Carter was probably making things difficult for her because Peggy asked him to do so. They probably didn't know how to drive her away, so they chose to keep her occupied so that she would leave on her own volition.

She wasn't an idiot. So, she would never let Peggy get what she wanted. Nevertheless, it was still very frustrating. She could tell herself that things would get better eventually.

One day, when she had gotten off work and was waiting for the bus, a voluptuous woman with a weird hairstyle walked toward her while she was talking with Alicia.

Calla continued to talk to Alicia and ignored the woman completely. The woman was Peggy, her worst enemy!

"Hey, Calla, waiting for the bus?" Peggy asked with an insincere smile.

Since she was already talking, Calla had no choice but to respond with a grunt of acknowledgment.

Peggy snickered. "You know, there's just no point in struggling against your fate. Just look at you. When you were a child, you had a tough life. Even after you're an adult, you're still so broke that you have to take the bus.

"I'm completely different from you. Your dad provided me with a nice and comfortable life when I was a child. And now, I ride in a BMW!"

A BMW stopped next to her right after she said that.

"Bye!" Peggy waved haughtily at Calla before getting in the car.

Then, the BMW sped off into the distance.
