RHYS POV The ride to Emma’s house was silent. Craig sat in my front passenger seat, making an important call to the rest of the guards to put an eye out for Walters. He looked calm, yet spoke with an urgent, desperate, tone. I wondered if he was anxious as I was to discover if Emma really did have a hand in this. Regardless of my deep trust for Walters, if he wanted to escape, he had every chance to. The 12 hour grace I gave him was more than enough to get called on for being favorable to others and not the rest. If he wanted to escape, should he have attempted it earlier even though there was no way he could have succeeded? Was it a last minute decision? And what did Emma have to do with this anyways? A thought clicked into my head. Yeah right, she had plenty of things to do with it. First of all, how did she become friends with Mia so fast? The way Mia has integrated her into our family was quite interesting. Mia was the most difficult person I know when it comes to friends, so did
ARABELLA POV I looked around my house, surprised at my new visitors. No, scratch that, I was nothing near surprised. I was actually kind of infuriated that they were in here, with my children. Delinda and Declan stood up from where they sat on the floor, but they remained there upon seeing my dark mood. “Do you always do this, walk into someone’s home unannounced?” I asked with gritted teeth. Craig started to speak but Rhys stepped forward instead, subtly shutting him up. With their body language and the way Craig immediately understood and laid back, I knew something was up that they weren’t telling me. What were they doing here? Had they found out and were trying to do something to me? “We were just passing by and I wanted to see you,” Rhys lied smoothly. “I wanted to make sure you know that tomorrow is the day for the opening.” “The opening?” I asked, distracted. “Yes. You know, the whole drugs thing that we need to introduce to the public? It is tomorrow, isn’t it?” “Yes,”
ARABELLA POVI stared after her, wondering what she meant by that statement she just made. I know it’s about Rhys, but this somehow emboldened my suspicion that she was the one in the garden that day. It had to be her since she was making snide remarks to me just now. At the same time, I really don’t have the energy to waste on her. They were already clamoring for my name on stage and I really needed to get these drugs up there and booming.“Take these to the stage,” I said to the two handlemen. “Can the both of you assist in doing this, please?”They both came forward and started to tow the table of drugs to the stage, each of them at each head of the table. One of the nurses in the hospital raised the flap of the tent and smiled encouragingly at them. When they took it to the stage, I took long and deep breaths to prepare myself. It’s not every day one goes out to talk to others and convince them to use their bodies and receive foreign objects for their good. When I got to the sta
Everything around me was happening so fast. I felt stuck in a particular place, watching the scene unfold before me. There’s no way the woman would have morphed into a wolf, I made sure of that. I ran series of tests, I swear, and now no one’s going to really believe me. I’m sure they think I’m some silly doctor who’s come to the pack to finish them off, disregarding the previous help that I had rendered them on the past. However, I could not read anyone thoughts so I don’t know what they’re thinking. I only heard loud noises and expressions around me, everyone looking shocked and scared and uncertain of what to do.“She’s going to kill that child!” Someone screamed. The scream pierced into my mind. I looked to the direction of the little girl who was standing in the way of the wolf, only to see that Rhys jumped just at the right minute and tackled the wolf to the floor. I gasped, then straightened because I had somehow found myself on the floor.“Rhys!” I heard Mia scream in the ba
ARABELLA POVI walked out of the ER and went directly to my office. I wasn’t interested in seeing anyone talk about the prospect of the patient who was just hospitalized. All I wanted to do right now was rest. I even had to tell the nurses to do that part as my head was spinning and I just wanted some time to recover from the day’s event. However, different thoughts kept coming to my head. As I placed my head on the desk and tried to doze off a bit, my mind wandered back to the scene when the woman had asked that she take her own pills there. Why hadn’t she taken it home like the others wanted to, why there? What the hell happened to the drugs? Why did it react like that and why did it all feel so wrong? Oh, I had so many, so many questions that felt like I was chasing the dark end. But how can this be? I was so confused and lost that I didn’t even know how to react.Oh dear goddess, please lead me, guide me.Damn, I feel like crying. I never imagined that my day would be ruined this
ARABELLA POVThe nurse standing before me looked away. I don’t blame her one bit. Not everyone would be inclined to offer themselves up as a test subject when seeing that the previous tests had reacted badly in the other person. Still, I needed to prove my theory right. Someone was setting it up, but whom? No one had access to the drugs except the nurse guard that I kept in charge, and she was staring right at me.“Are we going to do the test or not?” Dr. Edward prompted.Sighing, I took one of the tablets on the table. They were sectioned into two parts; the ones that were here and the ones that I had taken outside to share. I liked that Nancy had carefully differentiated the two, so at least I could know where the fault was coming from.I went to one of the lab subjects we have in the hospital, which so happened to be in the storage room but behind a door. I opened the door and brought out a cage containing a rat. We have plenty of them for newbie doctors who want to do experiments
CHAPTER ARABELLA POVI watched Mia carefully after my question, waiting for the one thing that would set her off. She laughed, flicking her hair back and looking at me straight in the face. I was swamped with so many emotions at the same time, so overwhelming that I couldn’t even pinpoint what it was that I felt exactly. Has Mia done this? The way she looked at me was like she was way more included than I could even imagine. And the statement that she made earlier even…I suddenly have a headache. Dealing with Mia was truly exhausting; too many hidden messages and backfiring. It honestly gets tiring at some point.“What do you know about this?” I inquired of her. “Why are you sitting out here, waiting for me so you could blow me questions?”She smirked and cocked her head to the side. “Would you rather I invite the reporters over there so they can do some coverage on you?”“No, thanks.”I tried to move around her but she blocked my way. Mia brought down her folded arms and allowed
ARABELLA POVMy gaze was fixed on Mia the whole time. Surely, she’s joking. I did not go low and beg her only for her to give me excuses, right? She looked back at the body and started to turn to the door. I blocked her way instantly, just like she blocked me from entering my car only moments ago.“Mia, you can’t say that. I did all this just so you would promise not to say a word.”She shrugged nonchalantly. “But I didn’t make any promises to you, Emma, so I’m not inclined to keep any.”I frowned deeply. “Mia, please. Please, I'm begging you, please.”She stopped, then raised her hand to her face as she ticked off her fingers. “Fine, I’ll help you on only one condition.”“What is it? What do you want?”“I want you to leave, Emma. After all this is said and done, I want you to leave this pack and never come back.”Our eyes met. Hers were fierce and blank at the same time like she was challenging me to defy her. Why would Mia ask me to leave? Did she find out about Rhys and me? The tho
