MIA POV

The ride back home was even more tense than the ride to the venue. I was very upset. Why hadn’t he defended me? Why did he make himself out to be a saint and I the bully? Why wasn’t he even putting any effort in this? I wanted to bring up the argument in the car, but I was so appalled that I decided to let it be for the time being. I would pour out all my anger when we got home.

We got home in the next twenty minutes. The servant was laying up our food at the dining, just as Rhys asked them to when he called home. We both went straight to the dining and dived right into the food. I was famished, yet my anger lingered behind.

I realized that he was going to remain silent if I let him, so I decided to bring it up myself.

“What happened back there, Rhys?” I asked.

He looked up at me from his dish. “What?”

“Back at the party, what happened there? Why didn’t you stand up for me, fight for me?”
