Chapter 29 Selfish and Heartless

Paige's POV

"I won't ask what happened, Ares. I just wanna know one thing," I started as I stared at my eldest cousin.

We're in the lanai, talking. It's almost midnight, but I couldn't sleep. I was planning to drink a coffee when I saw Ares here.

He nodded. "What is it that you wanna know?"

"Are you getting treatment?"

He smiled at me. "I haven't given up on my life, Paige. Yes, I'm getting treatment. Since day one."

I squeezed my eyes closed and chewed my bottom lip.

"Are you, perhaps, blaming yourself?"

I opened my eyes and looked at him again. "It was partly my fault. I was unable to help you."

"I didn't regret anything, Paige. I did that for this family. I don't wanna lose this house. This is your home. This is our home."

I shook my head and walked towards him. I hugged him as I silently cried on his shoulder. "You guys are my home, Ares. I don't need a house if I'll lose you in exchange."

He caressed my arm and chuckled. "You're ruining my rugged image, Paige. Don't cry like that
