THREE MONTHS AGO
Hailey woke up with a start as she heard the sound of her alarm. She was so excited she couldn't control herself.Getting out of the bed she hurried into the bathroom and took a shower then dressed up in one of her favorite dresses. She had purchased the cloth from a local merchant last week in preparation for today. She pulled her curtains revealing the sun rays and allowed it to soak up her skin. She was dressed in a silky red gown that hugged her curves exposing her cleavage a little. She hurried out of her room, her excitement threatening to double her over as she bumped into her best friend and roommate.“Hailey!” her friend exclaimed, startled.“Oh, Ciara. I didn't know that you were in the way,” she apologized.“It’s okay. I guess you're in a hurry,” Ciara nodded, smoothing her skirts.“Yeah. I'm hurrying to get to work on time,” she replied.Ciara frowned. “Work? What’s going on? Since when are you so excited to go to work?”Hailey chuckled. “Since I'm getting my big promotion today!”Ciara squealed happily. “Wow! You go girl!! I’m so happy for you.”Hailey giggled as she practically skipped out of her house and made it in time to catch the bus but seeing as today was a special day, she took a taxi straight to work. She arrived at the office and noticed the busy atmosphere. She exchanged a few pleasantries and then hurried to the boardroom. She was surprised when she saw her colleagues in the boardroom the meeting was already in full swing.“I’m sorry I'm late, Miss. Whitmore,” she apologized to her boss. The slim woman stared at her and then gave her a small smile.“It’s fine, darling. You're not late.”Hailey was over the moon in joy. She had been working in this newspaper office for six years now and she has finally gotten her big break. She could vividly recall the joy on her boss’s face when she gave her the writings on the exclusive of the businessman and how she was so excited to publish it.That was the story of the century and she had promised her that she would finally get her long-overdue promotion today.“Thank you, Miss. Whitmore,” she smiled then made to sit down but her boss stepped in the way.Hailey raised an eyebrow and the woman finally snapped. Her brown eyes glared at her so hard she felt the woman wanted to incinerate her with her gaze.“Miss. Whitmore?” she called unsurely.“You’re fired, Hailey!” the woman snapped.Hailey blinked like she wasn't hearing properly then stared at her and chuckled.“This is a prank, right?”When she noticed the tense atmosphere and the looks everyone was giving they were all avoiding eye contact except her boss who didn't back down as she glared at her.“I assure you, Miss. Parker no one is in the mood for your jokes!”Hailey stared at the woman in shock. She didn't look like she was joking, true to her words. But why would she fire her?“But Miss. Whitmore, why would you fire me? I just gave you the story of the century and you promised you were going to give me my deserved promotion,” she cried. Her boss scoffed. “You gave me a fake story!”Hailey’s eyes widened in confusion as she stared at her even more surprised. This day keeps getting more lovely, she mused sadly.“I gave you an exclusive story, Miss. Whitmore. My source is genuine,” she replied.“Genuine my ass!” Miss. Whitmore snapped, “You got played, dumbass.”“Calm down and explain to me what exactly is going on,” Hailey said quietly.“My office, Miss. Parker!” her boss snapped.Hailey scurried after her as she tried to keep up in her heels. She wasn't one for dressing up too much at work but she had thought today would be a special day so why not.But now, she wasn't so sure anymore. She entered the office and her boss indicated she should close the door, which Hailey did immediately.“Miss. Whitmore, I assure you I don't know what you're talking about,” Hailey began.Miss. Whitmore gave her one look that silenced her. “You were played by Channel 5. They gave you the wrong information and now we’re being sued for ten million dollars for libel and slander.”Hailey gasped. She didn't want to believe it as she shook her head furiously. It couldn't be true.Miss. Whitmore stared at her, almost with pity but it vanished immediately and she wondered if she might have imagined it.She turned on the television and the news played on it. It had accurate information including some information she had discovered herself. She couldn’t believe that selfish jerk would do this to her!“I always warned you not to mix business with pleasure but you wouldn't listen,” Miss. Whitmore sneered.“Miss. Whitmore, you can't fire me. I've invested a lot in this company,” she pleaded.“You should have thought of that before allowing your boyfriend to screw you over!” her boss countered.Hailey shook her head, biting her inner cheeks. She had taken money from her savings to buy her dress and take a taxi. She had done some impulsive spending because she was sure with a new post a salary increase would come, then she could finally move out and get her dream house. But now all her dreams were going down the drain and there was nothing she could do to stop it from crashing.“Miss. Whitmore, please. There has to be something I can do,” she cried.“You can always pay the ten million dollars and have your job back,” her boss said.Hailey shuddered. She was deep in loans from her student loans and some other overdraft she had collected from the bank when she graduated. She couldn't afford ten million dollars.“I don't have such money,” she said quietly.“This is New York, baby. The earlier you learn to stand on your own the better for you,” her boss advised then stood up to go.She handed her the termination letter and Hailey felt like her world was crashing not just her finances now.“Please, Miss. Whitmore. Give me another chance. I can get you another story,” she pleaded. Her boss glared at her. “I still have to pay off the ten million dollars debt you've acquired for me. The least you can do is leave this premises and never come back!”Hailey shook her head. “No, please I can't lose this job. You have to help me. There's gotta be something I can do.”Suddenly a smile blossomed on her boss's face and she prayed that the heavens had heard her cry too.“Actually, there is something you can do,” Miss. Whitmore smirked.“Anything. I'll do anything.”“You can write a paper on this,” she stated.Hailey blinked as she stared at the document her boss had pushed into her hands.“You know I don't write this kind of story,” she groaned.“Well, you do now.”Hailey smiled, she still looked clueless but pretended to understand perfectly well.“I’ll get my sources to work on it right now.”Her boss shook her head furiously. “I need an exclusive!”Hailey blinked. “What? But that's almost an impossible task.”Her boss gave her a bone-chilling smile. “Now that's the fun of it. Get to work darling or get lost!”Hailey strolled through the busy streets of New York City as the traffic and pedestrians yelled at each other. She was lost in thoughts as she wondered how her day of promotion turned to the day she got fired. This wasn't what she was expecting at all.Her phone beeped and she glanced at it wondering if it was her best friend, maybe wanting to check up on her and know the progress of her promotion.Tears misted her eyes as she unlocked her phone but the tears disappeared immediately she saw the number displayed on her screen. It wasn't her best friend, it was the lying snitch who had thrown her under the bus and wrecked her life and her career! He wanted to meet, right? A sly smile blossomed on her lips and she cackled maniacally earning weird glances from people around. She couldn't care less. She was about to show him that he shouldn't take her for granted and by the time she was done with him then he would regret his actions. She headed towards the restaurant he had typed in as the
Hailey heaved a sigh as she pressed the doorbell by the huge black gate with sharp spikes. She had no idea who owned the house except that her friend had somehow managed to get her an interview as a nanny. It wasn't her ideal job but she could start with something small before she can work her way back into her newspaper office or another office.“Who is it?” a robotic voice asked over the monitor underneath the doorbell.Hailey peered at the monitor and smiled. “Hailey Parker. I'm here for the nanny interview.”The gate swung open immediately and Hailey gasped as she took in the interior of the house. The house had an ice sculpture of a swan in the waterfall. The walls were all tiled and the floor of the house was smoothed with bricks. The mansion stood tall and proud as she looked around for the person who had opened the gate but she found none. She glanced at the car park and sucked in a deep breath at the number of expensive cars which were parked there. She risked a glance at the
Chase Denver ran a hand through his dark spiky hair tousling it for the fifth time today. He was restless and he knew the reason for his anger. He wasn't prepared for the responsibility his grandfather handed over to him.He knew he promised them he would do anything to save the family business but then…His thoughts were interrupted by a shrieking female. She strutted into his office, her green eyes blazing with fire, her lips pouted in a frown. Her red hair fluttered around her waist and she glared at him ready to breathe fire and brimstone.“Before you say anything, I was just about to call you,” he lied smoothly.“Bullshit!” she snapped, “I called you four hours ago!!”He nodded. “I've been in a meeting since then.”She rolled her eyes. “Save your lies to someone who doesn't know you.”He raised his hands in surrender. “Okay, you got me. I didn't feel like returning your calls, happy now?”She smirked. “I will be after I tell my grandfather that you want our union to fall apart.”
Chase Denver glared at the woman smiling sheepishly before him. He patted the back of his head where she had bumped him on and groaned. He hadn't just gotten a nanny but a stalker too! “I want her out of this house!”Leo stared at him like he was crazy.“But sir, she's the best nanny we’ve gotten so far who doesn't know you,” he cried.Chase hurried up the stairs and headed to his room. He didn't want to have this conversation before her, especially when his head was banging.“My room, Leo!” he snapped.Leo followed him closely and kept muttering how he had a good feeling about the girl who just whacked him over his head with a frying pan in his own house! Finally, they got to his room and he slammed the door before turning to vent his anger on Leo.“How dare you say nice things about her when she's a psycho sent to murder me?!”Leo gave him a weird look. “I know you're upset but you've got to calm down.”Chase glared at him. “You want me to calm down?! I had to hide in the office so
Hailey's expression held her shock, just as Chase stared at her in surprise. She didn't mean it. It was just a reflex action. An automatic response to a kiss she wasn't expecting, wasn't even prepared for, and worst of all, from her boss who believed all the women he'd hired, had come to have sex with him.She was different. Heck, she didn't even know him until today. He was attractive, no doubt. But he was rude, and quite off. Her shock expression had turned to fear, and then remorse when she met Chase's blazing gaze."I...I didn't mean it," she squeaked, stepping back in shock.Gosh Hailey, what have you done?!Why did she slap him? There were many ways to react to an unwanted kiss aside from slapping.Maybe she could have kicked him where the sun never shines.Worst, Hailey.Oh God! She was doomed.Fired Hailey, you're fired! She thought dejectedly."How dare you?" His voice was low, but the anger amplified it. His eyes shot hate lasers, and Hailey was beginning to melt."I'm sorry
By the time Hailey left the manor, it was quite late. She got home tired, and drained by the day's events, and not once did she not repeat the happenings in her head. She could not stop thinking about what Chase said and did.She boarded a taxi down to her apartment, and was still in thoughts till the car had come to a halt before her little apartment. Once she was inside the safety of her house, she undressed, took a quick shower and then microwaved some macaroni and cheese. She ate with a glass of milk, while she tried to catch up with the news. That was the only little distraction she had before her mind returned to thinking of Chase, his sassy daughter, Dawn and then the nice butler, Leo. Given, that house was a little drama of three different personalities in a blend. She had created quite the impression.Speaking of impressions, she had created a really bad impression on her first day. Considering Dawn was being a bit difficult, and her father, Chase had to be an asshole. And, sh
"Dawn!" Hailey called out, placing the ice cream plates on the bench, she went in search of Dawn. At first, she believed the girl was probably playing hide and seek somewhere. Maybe she was beginning to warm up to me, she thought. So she began combing through the park, searching for a certain dark haired six year old with emerald coloured eyes, dressed in a blue floral dress. For thirty good minutes, Hailey combed the entire park, alternating the sides and positions searching for Dawn. She bent, scrunched, and even crawled, moving amongst the playing kids hoping to see Dawn somewhere amongst the crowd of kids, yet the little girl was nowhere to be found.Alarmed by the turn of events, she began to ask the other kids, and adults who sat around if they'd seen a certain dark haired, Emerald green eyed six year old, dressed in a blue floral dress.Firstly, she walked towards a blonde lady who was struggling with fixing the shoelaces of her giggling son, who seemed happy with stressing his
Where the park was situated was a good distance from Denver's Headquarters in New York City. And since, Chase took his daughter almost everywhere; for walks, drives and several outings, the six year old was quite conversant with some parts of the city.Dawn had watched Hailey stroll away to get the ice cream, she'd waited for just the right opportunity to make Hailey look bad, so her father would have every cause to fire her.To her, Hailey was nothing but a Daddy stealer, just like Natalie, and every other nanny that they had hired. Hailey was happy when she requested chocolate flavour, and had gone to get the ice cream. Only that Dawn's favourite was actually mint, and the unsuspecting girl had left Dawn to carry out her mission.Quickly, she'd left the bench and ran all the way out of the park, and had headed straight to her father's office. By the time she got to the Office, she was breathless and her little legs shook at the strenuous exercise she had undergone. The security g
