1 The Genesis

“What?”! Hailey muttered in shock as she dropped her leg and stood on her feet. “ What nonsense is this, Jerry?” she yelled at the gatekeeper, whose gaze was fixed on the ground as if he were the one who wrote the letter.

The gateman trembled at her voice. He swallowed hard as he avoided eye contact with Hailey. This wasn't because of the respect he had for her, but because he was scared to see Hailey's angry face.

“My husband gave you this?” she raged as though she wanted to punch him.

“Y-yes, ma'am,” the gatekeeper stammered with his gaze fixed on the ground.

“How dare he give this to me? Has he gone crazy or what? How dare he give me a divorce letter, uh?”! Hailey shouted through gritted teeth and a frowning face.

The more she spoke, the more the gatekeeper quivered at her words.

Hailey had blonde hair cascading to her shoulder, resembling the first glorious ray of sunlight. Her cheerful face brightened up every gloomy heart as people turned towards her breathtaking smile like attracted sunflowers. Her hazel eyes could withhold the sweetness of honey and the kindness of a child.

Maybe this was why her husband married her. Which man wouldn't want to be with such a beautiful woman? Unless the man is too blind to see her beauty.

Judging from the woman's appearance, one could easily tell how exhausted she was.

Unfortunately, she just arrived home from her best friend's birthday party that was held that day.

Instead of a delicious dinner, she was welcomed with a divorce letter from her beloved husband.

Hailey was a wife to Williams. Their marriage had only lasted for three years. Even though her parents didn't support her relationship with Williams, she still went ahead and married him.

She dumped her current boyfriend just to marry this man who was currently her husband.

Not only that, she abandoned her family just to marry Williams because of the love she had for him. This wasn't because he pays her bills, but she still loved him without minding what people said about him.

True love!

She passed through a lot just to marry Williams because she felt he was meant for her and not her ex.

Hailey sacrificed everything she had just to marry this young man. She assisted him in building his bungalow house, which they were currently living in.

Although her family wasn't wealthy, they weren't poor either. They were a middle-class family.

Her whole youth life was dedicated to him, only to be surprised with a divorce paper from her husband with his name signed already, only because his first love returned to the city.

On the other hand, her husband was an orphan who was working hard to make a living through his hard work. Unfortunately, nothing was working out for him.

As fate has it, he met Hailey, who took it upon herself to help him as a good girlfriend would do for her lover.

As if that weren't enough, she helped him secure a job in the company where he was currently working after so much pleading with the CEO of the company.

Just in a few years, his life was changed for good with the help of Hailey.

No one could have told where he would have been by now if not for her assistance.

Now, he got the news that the lady who was accidentally his first love was back in the city after a few years. Without thinking twice, he made up his mind to divorce Hailey and go back to his first love.

“I'm sorry, ma'am. He said you should park your belongings and leave the house before he returns from the office.” Jerry, the gatekeeper, announced to her.

“Huh?” Hailey's eyes widened in shock after hearing that. It was as if she didn't get what Jerry said.

What suddenly happened to her husband, who claimed to love her with all his heart?

Is this how love is?

‘Has he seen another woman out there who is better than I? Is he divorcing me because I couldn't bear him a child?’

All these questions paced up and down in Hailey's mind as she was lost in thoughts. Hailey was weak to the point that her head began spinning.

She was thinking a thousand things at a second. Hailey couldn't figure out what was the cause of the divorce because she couldn't remember having an issue with her husband that morning before he left for the office.

Not only that day, she couldn't recall offending her husband before to the point that it would lead to divorcing her. So, why the divorce?

This world is full of wickedness!

Tears began flowing down her cheeks as they dropped on the paper in her hand. She still couldn't believe what she was seeing.

Maybe it's a prank. Who can tell?

Upon seeing this, Jerry rushed out of the living room thinking that Hailey might get angrier, and pour the anger on him before her husband could come back from the office.

Protection is better than cure!

In order not to secure injury, he had to flee away from her.

Hailey sniffed and summoned the courage to speak out.

“I will never leave a house I built with my resources. How dare he…?” she swore and angrily clenched her fist as tears continued dripping down her cheeks.

Just after she shut her mouth, her husband, and his girlfriend stepped into the living room as they held hands like newly wedded couples.

“Huh! Am I dreaming?” Hailey was flabbergasted by what she saw.

Her mouth widened in astonishment as she glared at her husband and the lady with him.

She couldn't believe what her eyes were seeing.

Hailey couldn't tell if she was dreaming or something. If she is, then why can't she just wake up to reality?

At that point, she could tell how serious her husband was about the divorce, which she thought was just a prank from her gatekeeper.

Indeed, it was no longer a prank, as she thought. What she was seeing was enough to tell her that it was real and not a dream.

Shockingly, upon setting eyes on Hailey, the husband's and his girlfriend's faces changed over time.

Unbelievable…!
