Chapter twenty nine

Joe's POV

The City, in a store

I remember telling myself not to spend too much. Turns out I never follow any of my personal rules.

I got a new haircut , three new suits and a shoe. 'Wasn't too much', I told myself. I was going to be the new HRM in a few hours. The hope I gave myself.

I headed out of the store, the late night cool breeze giving me a rejuvenating feeling. I looked across the street. Couples held themselves close to each other. I shook my head. Could have been me and Emily. But we just had to go out separate ways. I remembered my dream and hoped after she married, she had left the City. I didn't want to meet with her anymore. Might help me move on.

I took a corner. My house was just up ahead.

I entered the house. I remember switching off the lights of the sitting room but now they were on. Did I? I switched them off and went to my bedroom. I lay on my bed, putting my shopping on the ground below me.

A scent wafted through my dark room. 'What smelt so good?', I thought.
