**Emily’s POV**

I woke up with a jolt. A sharp pain streamed through my abdominal region as I tried to sit up.

My hand went to my throbbing temple and I winced as I felt a sharp pain at the little movement made.

I grimaced as I glimpsed an IV line stuck in my vein and I realized I was in the infirmary.

I stared at the IV bag and noticed a reddish liquid in it. Was that… blood?

I tried recalling what happened, but my mind was still hazy.

Opposite my bed, Alexander sat on the floor, his head laid on his knees which were drawn against his body.

As if sensing my gaze on him, he lifted his head slowly.

He had eye bags around each eye, even his beard looked like it hadn’t been shaved in a while. He looked starved and unkempt.

I wonder how long I had been here and Alexander didn't strike me as someone to keep vigil by my bedside if I was out.
