Chapter 57

Mrs. Peters shut her eyes waiting to fall asleep when she got the message notification from Clara.

She grinned and dropped back the phone on the table. “How foolish!” she exclaimed. “So gullible.”

It was so bold of Clara to think they indeed had a deal. Her aim was only to get Alex to reconcile with his dad before striking.

If she had carried out what she wanted to do with this malice between Mr. Peters and Alex, they might not succeed in convincing him to marry Annie. He would not agree and he might blame them.

But after Alex is on good terms with Mr. Peters, she strikes with evidence. Alex would see that his family had been right all along.

She turned to the other side of the bed, still on her pillow, what a naive girl! She thought to herself.

Clara did not sleep off immediately after sending the message, she stayed awake admiring her husband, her contract-loving husband.
