Chapter 39

Kiara walked back outside while I started the fire. It was late afternoon and the sun had turned a soft pink.

She had on a white summer dress with a little red flower pattern. Her hair was done up in a bun with all her makeup washed off. Her glasses were also on as she wrapped her arms around me and watched me finish the fire.

"I like this." She remarked and rested the side of her face against my back.

"The fire or holding me?" I asked as I spun around and held her face in my hands.

"I like us." She smiled and placed her hands over mine.

"I like us too." I smiled back and then gave her a kiss. Her soft lips pressed against mine for a bit before she pulled away.

"I'll go get the meat. Will you pour us some cool drink?"

"Sure, love." I nodded and we walked to the kitchen hand in hand.

We spent the rest of the afternoon chatting and braaing. It felt so good just to be here with Kiara... doing something as simple as sitting by a fire. It was strange how I enjoyed all the little th
