Chapter 41

I woke up the next morning, and the spot Kiara slept in was now empty. I opened my eyes, sat up, and looked around the hospital room. I was alone. Where was Kiara?

She would have stayed with me, missed work, slept in an uncomfortable chair, and refused to leave my side. I knew her. So, something serious must have happened to make her leave my room. Worry spread through me as I wondered what was going on. I had to get out of this room.

I pulled the drip out of my arm, then swung my leg over the edge of the bed. Pain shot up from the wound, but I gritted my teeth and forced myself to stand up. My body broke into a sweat as the weight on my leg made the pain worse. I had on a hospital gown, which let cold air on areas that were usually covered. I had nothing else on under the gown.

I slowly made my way out of the hospital room and used the railing on the side of the wall to make my way to the visitor’s lounge.

"Sir!" A nurse gasped as she noticed me. "You should be resting." She tried to
