“I want a list of all the tenants in the building,” I growled into the phone. “I don’t give a fuck about your privacy policy or the law. If you want me to keep making ‘generous donations’ you will do as I say.”

I paused, listening to his stuttering for a few seconds.

“I expect the list waiting in my email in two minutes, or else.”

Ending the call, I leaned back in the chair and frowned at the door in front of me. My eyes darted to the clock and then dropped to my phone on the table.

There were still ten more minutes to go before I needed to make my hour check-in.

I picked up my phone and dialed Val’s number. It rang and rang until it went over to voicemail. Frowning, I redialed, but the same thing happened.

My heartbeat increased as panic filled me.

Had something happened? We talked earlier and he said everything was fine, but that was nearly two hours ago.
