25. DAISY

I watched him leave the room with a hundred different emotions running through me. Pushing Elias’s face away from between my legs, I struggled to my feet. My legs nearly gave way beneath me, but I forced myself to move forward.

“Daisy?”

Ignoring them, I hurried out of the room and after Alex.

I found him at the kitchen island, going through the mail.

Alex paused and slowly lowered the envelopes. The moment he turned around to face me, I threw myself at him. A grunt fell from his lips, but he wrapped his arms around me and hugged me to his chest.

“I’m sorry,” I croaked against the crook of his neck. “Please don’t be mad at me.”

“I’m not,” he said softly.

Turning, he lowered me onto the island and leaned back to grip my chin and tilt my head back. His eyes darted over my face and lingered on my lips for a few seconds.

“I’m not mad.”

“I-I…” I swallowed. “I…You-”

“Shh,” he muttered, rubbing his nose along mine. “You don’t have to explain anything. I understand.”
