Elena’s face had contorted into a mask of horror and pain and I flicked my eyes quickly to her belly, looking back in time to see her give me a reassuring look.

Fuck.

“That traitor just continues to be a pain in my fucking neck-” I cursed, bunching the blood-stained sash in my fist as thunder boomed above us, washing the forest in brilliant white light for half a second before the lightning stopped and darkness rushed over.

My heart was pounding crazily inside me. I could have sworn I had seen something just off the edge of the forest. The silhouette of a large black wolf and yet, the crevices remained empty when I peered through them with my wolf vision.

Nothing. We were alone now at least.

“Shit! I need to tell Anthony about this. The Gotham elders need to know too!” I swore, and Elena’s eyes widened with horror.

“He must have staked out the cabin too. Dammit, I really liked this fucking safe house,” Klein Markov rapped, kicking off a stone with a murderous scow
