ONE MONTH LATER

I was in my office working when I heard a knock on the door.

"Yes, who is there?" I asked.

"It's Nicole, ma'am," she responded. She is Mr. Thomas' messenger.

"Alright, please come in," I told her.

She opened the door and walked in.

"Ma'am, the director said that he wants to discuss something with you," she said.

My heart skipped a beat as I heard that. "Discuss with me?" I muttered, wondering what I might have done wrong.

"Alright, I'm coming with you," I told her, and she turned to leave.

Without delay, I arranged the files I was working on together. I placed them back into the drawer and stood to leave to answer Mr. Thomas' office.

A few strolls later, and I was already in front of his office. With my shaky hands, I grabbed the doorknob and pulled the door open.
