Chapter three

age seventeen~

Why do children think they know everything during their teen years? I'm pulling my hair out as Sergio informed me that Miguel has supposedly joined a neighborhood gang since he's been seen with the leader Jorge and is experimenting with coke and meth. His sister worked overnight at a nursing home and was never home.

"Maybe you should confront him in your Death mode and scare the living shit out of him, boss," Sergio suggests. I leaned back in my chair and thought. I haven't seen the kid up close in years and hoped he'd been doing well.

"Drive me to the neighborhood and I will take a stroll," I grinned and Sergio shuddered at my calmness. On the drive to Miguel, I began to wonder if any of this was worth it. Was getting my soulmate going to miraculously change my mind and dead heart about love, I highly doubt it.

The streets were dark. Tucson is a dark sky city so light at night is very limited, especially in this neighborhood. Dressed in all black I blended in perfectly with the shadows as I exited the car.

"Call me when you're finished," Sergio mumbled before driving off. I headed towards Miguel's house seeing the lights were on inside. I knocked because why the hell not. The door opened and I swallowed my tongue. Miguel eyed me curiously and wiped at his swollen lips. I could smell lust and glanced over his broad shoulders to see a rough looking boy sitting on the couch looking nervous. I cocked my brow and looked back at Miguel.

"Did I interrupt," I smirked and a brief flash of unease filled his eyes before he shook his head.

"Ah no mister fire rescuer, why are you here?" He remembers me, a spark of joy touched my heart.

"Just wanted to see if everything was going well for you Miguel, you certainly have grown, you're very tall," I mumbled like an idiot. He was tall though, probably an inch shorter than me. He also was attractive and would mature into a very handsome man. Miguel opened the door wider and invited me inside. I walked in and watched Miguel tell the other kid he needed to leave. The kid looked rather dejected and frowned, saying a low curse as he closed the door behind himself. I sat on the couch and watched Miguel sit next to me. My heart was thumping wildly in my chest. I held my hands on my lap as my eyes scanned Miguel.

"Tell me why I've had you on my mind for all these years and haven't been able to find my happiness," he asked me boldly. I glanced at him and grinned.

"Is that why you're doing drugs and kissing boys, trying to find your happiness?" Miguel furrowed his brow and clenched his fists.

"I've done more than just kiss boys and I do drugs because I'm gay and don't know how to deal with it," he spat.

"Humans and your stupid labels for anything that isn't supposedly normal. Listen kid, do what you want with who you want, only if it's legal and don't let others label you," I stated firmly and saw his eyes get watery.

"What's wrong now," I asked him. His damp green eyes looked at me and I watched him as he slowly moved closer to me. Our noses were touching and he tilted his head and kissed me swiftly. Shocked, I grabbed his arms and pulled him back.

"I'm sorry, I don't know what came over me," he started sobbing.

"It's alright, I'm just a hell of a lot older than you so technically not legal," I mumbled and pulled him closer for a comforting hug. He was nestled on my lap with our arms wrapped around each other. He had his head on my shoulder.

"I feel extremely comfortable with you and my memory is kind of fuzzy, your name, it's Sebastian right," he asked softly.

"Yes it's Sebastian, just Sebastian and I am your soulmate, imagine that," I tell him. He looked up at my eyes and grinned.

"I'm going to kiss you now, please just let me," he asked nicely. I exhaled and nodded. He kissed me once again and I kissed him back, running my fingers through his silky black hair. He was experienced with his tongue and before long we were both sprawled out on the couch in a heavy makeout session with him lying on top of me. Miguel was grinding his hips into mine and I smiled during our kisses. He pulled back and his eyes were glowing with lust.

"I'm a top little man so don't even think about it," I mumbled and he smiled.

"I'd love to bottom for you," he told me and started kissing me more frantically. The mature part of my larger head told me I needed to stop and I reluctantly pulled him back.

"We need to stop here, Miguel. I'd enjoy having sex with you but not until you're at least eighteen," I mumbled and pecked his swollen lips. Miguel ran his hand over my bulge and grinned.

"Let me at least take care of this, it can be consensual," he chuckled and unzipped my jeans. I stopped his hand and shook my head.

"What did you use tonight," I asked. He swallowed uncomfortably and looked away from my prying eyes. He mumbled coke and I rubbed my eyes.

"You need to stop doing drugs, have you told your sister that you like boys?" Miguel shook his head and went to sit up. I noticed the dark hickey I put on his neck oops.

"I can't tell her, she wouldn't understand," he claimed.

"Well how about you stop doing drugs and the neighborhood boy toy, finish highschool and you can live with me and Sergio," I said and watched his eyes glisten. He agreed but only if I promised to visit him every other night and maybe stay. I eyed him and he swore not for funny business so I agreed. I called Sergio and told him he could pick me up. Miguel asked for a goodbye kiss and I gave him one that would keep him satisfied until I returned, damn young male hormones. Miguel also entered his cell number into my phone. I thanked him as I headed out. He watched me the entire way. I smiled at Sergio and he smiled back.

"Your visit went well?" I nodded my head and heard my cell ding. I looked at my phone and the picture Miguel sent of him wearing black and white vintage Nike's. I showed the picture to Sergio.

"Aren't those the ones I left behind," I mumbled and Sergio shrugged. Another ding, Are you rich? I grinned and replied I guess. Another ding, cool, so um goodnight and come over tomorrow around five, my sister leaves before then. I  typed back ok and told him sweet dreams as I chuckled. Sergio eyed me oddly and laughed as he drove into the darkness. We arrived at my home when my cell started playing Fur Elise. I looked at the screen to see Miguel's name. I answered and my stomach dropped at what I heard.

"Come get the kid in his yard, Jorge fucked him up badly for tossing him out tonight, I'm doing you a solid by letting you know so you can save him, he's going to need stitches on his face," a boy's voice stated and ended the call. I turned to Sergio and he said he would be speeding to get there.

"Can you use some of your death magic to get us there quicker," Sergio suggested and I shook my head.

"No but I plan on snapping my fingers for that puto Jorge," I growled, even though I knew he'd be getting gunned down in a couple more years.  We pulled in front of Miguel's house and I rushed into the yard to see Miguel struggling to get into the house. I grabbed him and lifted his battered body into my arms. His face was a bloody mess. Sergio opened the back door and I helped him get situated. I sat next to him and pulled off my t-shirt for him to hold to his face. We hurried to the emergency room and the nurses rushed him back. Miguel handed me his cell phone which I handed to Sergio.

"I wonder why they would call me," I mumbled and Sergio held up Miguel's phone. A picture of me with tiny hearts and my name flashing in the middle shown on the phone screen. I bit my lip and gushed a little, okay I did a lot, it was adorable. I wondered how he had snuck taking my picture.

"I think he likes you master," Sergio teased me and I freaking giggled like a girl. We stopped messing around when the nurse came out and started asking us questions about Miguel's injuries. She handed me my bloody shirt and I chuckled, realizing that I was shirtless as I slipped the bloody thing over my head and pulled it down my firm chest. The police came next and Maria, his sister stormed in. She eyed us both and looked at us strangely before being escorted back into Miguel's room.

"Why can't I go see him, I know that he will live but I'd like to at least see him," I mumbled sourly. The nurse overheard my comment and stated only family members can visit with him in the emergency department.

"Can I at least be informed if he's doing alright," I mumbled rudely. The nurse rolled her eyes and left to go back through the doors. Sergio and I went together to the waiting room.

"Want me to get you a clean shirt boss," he asked me and I shook my head. I noticed a coffee machine and headed towards it to get a cup of the nasty smelling brew.

"This is horrible but at least has caffeine," I cringed. Sergio laughed loudly at me and quieted when Maria waltzed in pointing at him.

"I know you both, you told me he was Death and I overreacted stupidly," she said and added,"you saved him again mister, you're his guardian angel." I shrugged and grinned.

"I just care a great deal for the boy, we are um soulmates, if you believe that sort of thing," I mumbled softly and noticed Maria's eyes shine a little at my words.

"He's very fond of you too, if I recall correctly you're Sebastian, he spoke about you the entire time he was awake until they took him to surgery. His poor beautiful face is going to be scarred," she said with a sob. Sergio held her as she weeped and spoke about the injury and the hospital bill and the gang leader Jorge. She said Miguel was supposed to graduate in a couple weeks and already had the required credentials but would miss the ceremony.

"Can you take him in and keep him safe? I'm assuming that you live in a nicer area and can keep him from being harmed further by Jorge," Maria told me.

"If you're asking for me to let him live with the two of us, then yes he may. I can send someone to gather his belongings and move them to my home. It's in the foothills, I'm a wealthy businessman miss," I told her with a grin and she went and hugged me in gratitude.

"Can I see him in the recovery room and we can tell him that he's going to live with me," I asked her, surprisingly hopeful.

"When is his birthday," I added. Maria laughed but eyed me curiously.

"Miguel's birthday is June 17th, next month, " she said. I grinned and nodded, winking at Sergio who had no idea how much I was looking forward to Miguel moving in.
