Chapter 4

Amira stared at Morgan for a while before nodding with a hesitant expression on her face.

“I am a moon goddess. But who exactly are you looking for?” she asked, completely puzzled.

“Huh? Aren’t you the only one?” Morgan asked back while they were walking away from the falls. Amira shook her head while chuckling as she held Morgan’s clothes closer to her body as she felt the cold breeze of the wind. Morgan saw her do that and immediately thought of how he could help her warm up without scaring her.

“Our packhouse is a bit too far from here,” Morgan informed as he stopped walking. Amira was already a few steps ahead of him when she realized that he had stopped. She turned around and looked at him questioningly. She was wondering if she did something wrong.

Morgan gulped as he struggled to stop himself from being mesmerized by her beauty. He subtly heaved a deep breath before smiling at her.

“My father had built me a treehouse nearby. It wasn’t that big but it can keep you warm for a while,” he said waiting for her to say something but Amira just stared at him innocently. He cleared his throat to help ease up the awkwardness he was feeling.

“I was asking if you would like to stay at the treehouse for a while? Just until your clothes dried up?” he said pointing out to her damped white dress. Amira looked down at her dress before looking up to him once again.

“Does this bothers you?” she asked innocently causing Morgan to looked at her with amusement.

“Careful…” Morgan reminded as he held Amira’s hand tighter while helping her pull herself up to the treehouse that his father built for him when he was still a child.

The mini house was placed on top of a tall tree. Originally, Romero told him that it would be difficult for him to climb to, but Morgan insisted. He loved the feeling of being in a high place. A high place where no one can see him. A place where he can hide when everything gets too tiring.

Sometimes, too much attention from everyone was really exhausting.

“Wow!” Amira exclaimed as she looked down and saw almost everything below them.

“It’s so green!” she said giggling with excitement. Morgan just watched the goddess’ amused expression while looking at the almost magical forest below them.

“What is it like up there?” he asked as he settled down beside her, both of their feet were hanging while looking down, not even feeling an ounce of fear of falling.

“In Bulan?” Amira asked as she turned her head to look at him. Morgan nodded while his eyes remained on her face.

Amira sighed heavily and looked up into the sky. She raised her hands and opened her palms as if reaching for the moon.

“It was beautiful.” She said while staring at her home that looks far away now.

“Beautiful but lonely.” She added before she turned to Morgan once again with a sad smile.

“I wished I could just stay here forever.”

“You can. I can talk to my father and explain the situation to the whole pack, they would accept you,” Morgan suggested eagerly but Amira shook her head and looked back at the bright moon.

She was sure everyone’s already looking for her by now.

“I can’t.” She whispered.

“Yet.” She added as she turned to him once again.

She showed her little finger in between them and urge Morgan to do the same. It was a gesture of promise she saw in one of the scrolls of love her mother had her study.

“I saw this a lot in the scrolls I was studying. It’s what people do when they promised something to each other,” she explained although she was sure that Morgan already knew about it.

“Yes. It’s called pinky-promise.” He confirmed.

“What are you promising?” He asked afterward as he watched her staring at their fingers with fascination.

“I needed to go back there, Morgan.” She said in a low voice.

Morgan sighed heavily before avoiding her eyes and was about to let her fingers go but Amira tightened the hold on his little finger making him look at her once again.

“Would it be difficult for you to stay here? You said it was lonely up there?” Morgan asked, Amira smiled at him before turning to look at the moon again.

“It is lonely. But my mother… I know she’s looking for me.” She said staring at their little fingers entangled together.

“But I promise…” she looked up and meet Morgan’s eyes.

“I promise that I would return. I would come back here. And when that happens, I won’t go away anymore.” She promised with a sincere smile.

Morgan stared at her tiny and pretty face. He sighed and sealed the promise with their thumbs meeting.

“And I promise that I would always wait for you. I would wait for your return. I’ll do everything that I can so you won’t feel lonely anymore. You won’t cry while I’m here, Amira. No one can hurt you while I’m around. I’ll be the strongest wolf so that I can protect you from anyone. I promise you that!” He said and finally smiled back at Amira.

Morgan had questioned it before. He had questioned why fate had to choose him to be the so-called strongest alpha. But now… he was glad he was the chosen one. He was glad because he would be able to do something for the lonely goddess seated beside him.

He didn’t know why he was so drawn to her. He never questioned the teachings of their kind. The reminders that they should keep out of the goddess’ way. But now, he can’t help but wonder… why?

Why do they think of a beautiful creature like her can caused them misfortunes?

As their promise to each other was sealed, their eyes started glowing as they both looked up to stare at the moon they both love. But little did they know that the invisible tiny red string that was attaching Morgan to his supposed-to-be mate had vanished completely in exchange for the promise they made.
