Chapter Twenty Nine

Axel PoV

The miracle I had hoped would happen when I was holed up in my room, happened in Maximo’s cave.

I found the traitor that almost tore apart my pack, I got Maximo’s neck off my neck, and I figured out a way to find leverage over him so he doesn’t have me on his leash anymore. All in all, the future was looking good for me; for Klaus? Not so much.

“You’ve been silent,” Klaus said during the trip home.

“I have nothing to say,” I replied sternly.

“You do believe me, right?”

“It doesn’t matter what I believe,” I replied, “and I’d very much like to be left alone.”

Indeed, I wasn’t sure what to believe. The Klaus I knew wouldn’t endanger the pack because of some random girl he pitied. And he was definitely not superstitious enough to do what he did because he believed in some strange prophecy from a goddess. There had to be something I was missing.

“I was able to calm down Al and his minions,” Klaus said after a few minutes of silence, “but I didn’t respond.”
