~ Zora Cade licked his lips, darting his eyes left and right like a crazy man. "You'll have to get me out of here first." He whispered. Getting the message, Roman ordered his gate open, and had Cade's wrists and ankles bound in silver chains before dragging him out roughly like he was going to interrogate him. The rest of the prisoners watched us with malicious eyes as Cade was manhandled out of the hallway and taken out of sight. When we entered the office Nox took me to the first time I came here, Roman released Cade but didn't remove his chains. Cade looked around for a bit before his eyes landed on some cookies on a table."Can I have some of those?" He asks, pointing with one finger at the cookies but ends up pointing all ten because of his bondage. "It's been a while since I had one." Since I had no idea who put it there, I looked to Roman who gave him the go ahead. Cade immediately rushed to the table, raising a piece to his mouth and taking a bite. He closed his eyes for
~ ZoraRoman did as he promised. We started with some warm-up exercises, before he wore boxing gloves for me and got me into a ring. The trick there was that I had to build a diamond wall around my feelings and emotions while jabbing and ducking. It was one of the most difficult things I had to do in my life because every single time, it was either my mental shield went down or I didn't duck on time and got smacked in the face. Thankfully, Roman wasn't even using his strength, otherwise I would have been bruised. After that we did some running, while I still had to maintain my shield. After we ran a few miles and it was time to rest, I leaned against a tree and bent over on my knees terribly out of breath. I wasn't surprised to see Roman watching me with hardly a sweat on his skin. "How the hell are you not tired or something?""Because I've had years of experience doing this."Panting, I pushed to stay upright. "How long would it take for me to get strong?" Roman looked down a
~ ZoraWounded soldiers were taken to the pack hospital located between Sector Two and Sector One. There were about a dozen and half of them lying on beds in a big room. Some were already fully healed while some still needed to stay overnight. After giving them each a brief visit and conversing with their nurses, I was assured that they would all be fully healed and ready for service in no time. I noticed General Cain wasn't among the wounded and I made my notice known to Roman beside me. He decided to go ask one of the doctors while I stayed with the men, making small talk and helping the nurses administer their herbs. After that, I decided a three-day leave would be best for them but to my surprise, they all politely declined. "We'll rather be in service than on standby, my Queen." One of them, a dark skinned soldier, said and all the other men nodded in agreement. With a warm heart, I thanked them all and left their room in search of Roman. When I reached the end of the hall, I
~ ZoraAbigail was the only other person I told of my impromptu mission and she looked at me with the softest expression I had ever seen on her. "May the gods be with you. May the Moon light your steps and bring you and your men back to us safely."I nodded in response and we discussed canceling all the plans and outings I had for that month. Abigail further declared she would take over my duties for the event tomorrow and declare me indisposed in case I didn't make it back home. After eating, showering and taking a day's worth of clothing, I climbed into Roman's car and together with six black trucks filled with soldiers, we drove out of the Lycan territory and headed east.We drove at a high speed, avoiding the main road and sticking to passing through the path in the bushes. I spent the time, going over short books written about the were-coyotes, so I could learn as much as I could about them. We continued non-stop until the sun began to set and we slowed. We got to a point where
~ ZoraDespite looking quite native and living in mud houses, The Midland Pack actually had nice interiors. A heavily pregnant woman opened the door to let us in and from the essence of power I felt thrumming inside her, I knew she was the Luna. "This is my wife, Kitana." Chayton said proudly. "Hello and welcome." She said, She was just as beautiful as her husband was handsome. Her long dark hair flowed beyond her waist and was adorned with golden accessories. Clothed in a long flowing flowery dress, she also wore tattoos similar to her husbands. Her left ear was adorned with earrings all the way to the top and she had several lip rings as well. Her unusual look was a stark contrast to the sunshine smile she gave us as we came in.I was surprised to see that they had cable and television and other modern things in the house. Roman and I were asked to gently walk so as not to wake their kids who were light sleepers. The fact that they had children spurred a longing in me that I n
~ ZoraThe amount of relief that passed through me was indescribable and I couldn't believe that I actually pulled it off. The men I brought were taken away by Chayton's men and soon the excitement in the room died down. "So, what's your strategy?" Chayton asked. Renewed with confidence, I launched into it. "I have no idea when Troy will attack, but I have my men handling that. What matters to me is the cure and I want to storm his pace and take it."Chayton rubbed his chin in thought. "Have you confirmed if he has it?" My brows furrowed and a moment of panic punctured my confidence. Who would make a poison and not also make the antidote? "I didn't confirm but I assumed-""Ahhh." Chayton said, rising to his feet and wagging his forefinger. "When it comes to Troy, you don't assume. I have been unfortunately acquainted with him for years, and I learnt the hard way that Troy is a viper that cannot be underestimated."I saw reason in what the Alpha said so I nodded. "I have someone th
~ Zora"You did it!" Roman said as he patted my shoulders and pulled me into a hug. Before I knew it, Sydney was embracing me too and so was Cain. Then all the soldiers, including my generals as well as Doctor Mooney, went on one knee and bowed to me. The act alone, although done so many times, still managed to render me speechless. I couldn't even bring myself to speak because I was going through so many emotions at the same time. They all rose to their feet and Doctor Mooney was the first to approach me, "You have no idea what you've just done for us. Thank you.""We all did it together." I said when I managed to find my voice again. According to Mooney, Cain still needed rest and monitoring, so they entered one of the trucks containing the rest of the flowers and left for sector three. "The ceremony has already begun, maybe you should go change. Abigail has your dress ready." Roman said. I mulled his words over in my mind. "Tell Abigail to bring my dress to Sector Three. In th
~ ZoraIn a matter of minutes, Sydney was driving Abigail and I straight to the Temple. Roman had informed me that he was on his way as well but would leave the men on standby just in case. One could not be too careful. Since I left Sector Three, I had been trying to reach Elder Kirsten but I discovered I couldn't, so I made my concerns known to the women in the car with me. "She's probably busy at the moment or has too many people she's mindlinking at the same time." Abigail explained. Naturally, a ride from sector three to the Temple took about an hour and a half, for me it felt like forever and it also took longer because people were making their way to the Temple and now the road was congested in traffic. I prayed to the Moon Goddess that I made it in time to stop the poisoning of my people. While I waited, I got an idea, so I mindlinked the one person I knew could help as well. "Emelda, you there?" "Yes Zora. What do you need?" came her cheery voice. "I actually meant if y
