CHAPTER TWENTY-FOUR - ELIJA

A thick growl sounded from inside the cell, a growl I didn't think Elija could manage under these conditions. Maybe it was pain, maybe it was hate, or both. My knees nearly gave out, but I quickly tried to steady myself. I felt like a kid ice skating for the first time.

Elija was now slowly sitting up, hands in front of her, bound by the chains. He looked at them and growled again.

"Elija..." I whispered raising my hands as if I was trying to calm a deadly and hungry beast, which was true. "You need to be quiet." I asked and he looked back at me as if the wolf was in his place analyzing me. He wrinkled his nose, trying to pull the chains, which only made more noise. I looked at the stairs, distraught. "Please, you must be quiet. If they know you're awake now..." I tried to approach the cell, but rational fear crept into my bones. He didn't seem very receptive. Especially with a stranger like me.
