Chapter thirty-two

Charlotte, Abbigail and I were sitting in her eye doctor's office. She was a nervous wreck and crushing my left hand. He just told her he could install the implants on her birthday, a few months from now. By then she should be in second trimester and the nausea from the pregnancy should be over.

Her mother and I exchange concerned looks and I kneel in front of her. I kiss the hand that's crushing mine and look into her blind eyes. I could see a swarm of emotions showing in them and could only imagine how she must be feeling right now.

I rise between her legs, place her arms around my neck and her legs wrap around my waist as I stand up. Her relieved sobs were muffled in my neck and I do my best to rub her back in comfort with my right arm in the cast. "Let's get her home," Charlotte says in a soothing tone and turns her attention to the doctor. "Thank you, we'll see you in a few months."
