Adelynn was frozen to the spot. At this point, she wanted the ground to open up and swallow her. She couldn't stand the intensity of hatred and malice in Mrs Jefferson's eyes. This woman used to be so kind to her.
They would go shopping together, attend social events and even go to beauty spas together. Obviously, Mrs Jefferson did not take the news of her refusal to Jensen's proposal well.
There was no way she could explain the truth surrounding her refusal and she knew that she probably deserved the hatred she was receiving now. If only she could turn back the hands of the clock.
"Cat got your tongue?" Mrs Jefferson spat.
"I work here" Adelynn responded, lowering her gaze. "You what?!"Adelynn recoiled, her eyes already filling up with tears. She hated being vulnerable. It was one of the things she hated the most."Did you just say you work here?!""I-""Mother"
BothJensen clenched his jaw when Adelynn slapped him hard on the face, with hatred and anger reflecting in her eyes. He parted his lips to say something but was stunned to silence when she slapped him again; this time, harder. He swallowed hard, realizing that he'd lost. This was exactly what Dominic had wanted. He'd manipulated him into exposing the truth about himself.Clearly, he had underestimated Dominic. "How could you?! How could you stoop so low?!" Adelynn cried, angry tears filling her eyes."Addie-""Don't!" She hissed, clenching her fist. "And to think that I was going to divorce Dominic because of someone as despicable as you are!""And here I thought that Dominic was the manipulative one. I had no idea that you are the devil himself!""I had to get rid of him, Addie!. I love you so much and I should be your husband, not him! But, he always finds a way to ruin things.""So, you tried to kill him?! Not once but thrice! You were
Lying on her matrimonial bed, Adelynn stared at her husband's sleeping figure. He was within arm's length and was lying on the other side of their king sized bed. This was practically the first time he was sleeping on the same bed with her. Adelynn was starting to get worried and as she watched him sleep, her mind swam with overwhelming thoughts. She couldn't understand why he'd started to act different. She almost felt that he was an imposter. She just didn't know how to deal with the new changes. She was finally seeing a different side of him and she should be happy right?Wasn't this what she'd wanted all along? She stared at Dominic's sleeping figure, noticing how innocent he looked when he wasn't awake. She reached out to caress his hair and froze. What am I doing? She thought and pulled away. Then she stared at her wedding ring, quietly. She had a feeling that things were about to change. Her phon
Dominic stared at Adelynn, stunned to silence for a moment."What was that for?" He rasped and she took out her phone and played the video Jensen had sent her. Then, she handed her phone over to him. "I would have asked for an explanation but, I'm pretty sure all you're going to do is cook up lies" she said and his frown deepened."What are you talking about?""I was willing to give you a chance, Dominic. But, you just screwed everything up. I really can't believe this!" She exclaimed and stormed up the stairs. Dominic watched the video, clenching his fist when he understood what Jensen had done. In the video, they were both sitting in Jensen's office. But, their conversation was different. Dominic went upstairs and found Adelynn taking off her earrings. "Adelynn, just hear me out-" he began."What are you going to say? I don't want to hear your lies""Please, listen to me. It's true that I went to his
Not knowing what to make of Dominic's attitude, Adelynn was disturbed. Her husband didn't return to their bedroom and by the time she awoke the next morning, he'd left for work."Is something on your mind?" Sue asked Adelynn during their lunch break at the office. Adelynn shrugged and took a sip of her iced tea. "It's nothing, really""I don't think it's nothing, Addie. Is this about Dominic? You're not planning on divorcing him already, right?""Come on, Sue. That's not it""So, what's wrong? " Sue asked with a look of concern on her face. "I was starting to warm up to Dominic, you know""Did you two have a fight?""No, we didn't. It's just...I feel like I barely know anything about my husband and it's bothering me a lot. I'm worried that there's something he's struggling with and I'm afraid he won't ever open up to me"Sue sighed."Honey, you've
The tension did not vanish until both mother and son left the dinning room and ascended the staircase. Adelynn knew that her husband was seething not just because of what her mother in law had almost told her. Once mother and son were in Dominic's study, Charlotte spoke."I know you don't want her to know about your past. But, she is your wife. She has to know. You don't want her to find out about it through someone else, do you?" She asked and Dominic ran his fingers through his hair, a tortured look in his eyes. "I know I'll have to tell her. But, I'll do that when I'm ready" he stated. "You look stressed. Did anything happen at the office?" His mother asked with a slight frown on her face. "I'm fine""You're doing that thing again" she said, her voice soft. "Doing what thing?""Saying the opposite of what you feel?"Dominic turned away from his mother, but she could still sense how troubled he was. He wished he could let h
Warning bells rang in Adelynn's mind and all she could think of was how she was betraying Dominic. She pulled away and took a step backwards, her makeup totally ruined. Jensen parted his lips. "Don't" she croaked and took another step backwards."I'm sorry-"She shook her head, more tears rolling down her eyes in floods. "No, you're not" she rasped. "You can't say things like that and kiss me. It's not fair. You can't do this to me" she cried and walked away, her grief weighing heavily on her. She got into her car and drove off, the gnawing pain in her heart worsening each time she thought of Dominic. She could barely concentrate on her driving. She had to pull over when her tears wouldn't stop flowing. Guilt ridden, she buried her face in her hands and cried her heart out."I'm so sorry, Dominic. I'm so sorry" she cried, unaware of the sleek red car that had just been parked right next to her car. Dominic stepped out of his car wi
Thinking of the events that had happened two nights before, did nothing to soothe Adelynn's nerves as she sit in her office staring at the screen of her laptop, blankly. She had run into her boss earlier and had awkwardly greeted him. He hadn't said anything either and she was grateful for that. She wouldn't have known what to say to him if he'd decided to strike a conversation with her. She let out a sigh and squeezed her eyes shut, trying to get rid of the image of Jensen kissing her, from her mind. It was no use. It kept replaying over and over again in her mind. Frustrated, she slammed her palm against the top of her desk, her eyes glassy. Her head shot up at the sound of a knock on her door.Hesitantly, she said, "Come in". She watched quietly as the door swung open and Jensen walked in with a grim look on his face. His jawline was dotted with stubble and there were bags under his eyes. This was unusual. Adelynn stared at him as h
"Look at me, Dom. Focus on me, on what's real" Adelynn whispered, her palm resting on the side of Dominic's face. "I can't-""Sh!" She cut him off, bringing his palm to her chest. "Can you feel that? That's my heartbeat. I'm right here with you. This is real" she whispered and he closed his eyes, his breathing slowly evening out. Adelynn watched him as he rested his head on her laps. She gently stroked his dark hair, whispering soothing words into his ears. "I'm sorry" Dominic croaked after a while. "You don't have to apologise over what you didn't have control over" Adelynn said, her voice soft. Dominic closed his eyes, the ache in his chest growing."You're not going to ask me what my nightmare was about?" He rasped, his eyes still closed. "I want you to take your time. I don't want to pressure you" They were both silent for a little while. "My nightmare was a reminder of what happened to me
