CHAPTER FOUR

"What was he doing here, could it be he was following her around," she thought.

She was going to confront him but wouldn't do such a foolish thing to ruin her reputation here, it was her turn now as she acted as if she know him. She excuses him and walks straight to Mr. John, he had told her about signing a contract once she had gotten the job.

"Good day Selena" he greeted her as she walked towards him with a bright smile on his face.

"Good day," she responded.

"I am glad you got the job."

"Me too," she said wearing a big smile on her face, seeing her smile like that no one could have ever imagined the things she has had to go through.

He walks her to an empty room and presents the document which she had to sign to her. As she read on the smile on her face immediately disappears and turns into a worried and sad look as she sees her exes name written broadly "HOWARD TURNER", she was also going to be working as his secretary. She had her guess on the first day but thought it wasn't possible Howard was in Italy and struggling, there was no way this huge company was his but now it was evident that he was going to be her boss. How could she have been so dumb to think she would ever get a job on her own , she started doubting herself thinking it was Howard who made them hire her, he probably knew her address through her application and was searching for her in her area that's why they had met the other night.

"He is such an asshole, "she thought. he then went on to pretend like it was a coincidence.

She already made these things up in her head but in reality, it was the complete opposite. Howard had no idea she was in California from Italy that's where they had lived all their lives and shared many memorable nights until he decided to take the opportunity to break up with her and leave. He has no idea she had applied for a job at his company, and most importantly wasn't following her around.

How was she going to work effectively in this place when her ex was the boss? She would have to see him every day for as long as he worked maybe she wouldn't take this job, it was going to be a really heavy ride.

She walked to Mr. John just to make sure and it was confirmed the man she had met at the entrance was indeed the owner and founder of this company.

She stood there for a moment helplessly and slowly walked back into the

the office she was in earlier, she held the paper and read through it, she was going to be working morning and night with just one day off in a week. She didn't want this at all, this paper only meant she would have to be around Howard for so many hours. How was she going to refuse this offer, she was broke as hell, needed money to go see her mum after her fathers passing, needed money for feeding and shelter, needed money enough to take care of her mum so she could stop working and her siblings were also there, she just needed to get her life on track but finding a descent means to earn a living was incredibly hard. She couldn't afford to lose this one job that she had gotten and besides the pay was high. It would be stupid to walk out on this just because she didn't want to be around her ex.

She eventually signs the contract cause her needs were greater than her so-called pride.

She walked out and gave the man the paper.

"When would I be resuming ? she asked.

"It's Friday already so by 8 am on Monday you have to be at your post " he replied.

"Is anything wrong?" he asked as he noticed she was not as excited as she was earlier.

"No it's nothing, sir, "she said as she faked a smile on her face.

She was about to leave when her eyes located the huge screen at the reception. A girl had been raped in her area on that very night and was brutally murdered.

Her heart sank into her stomach, that would have been her if Howard and his men had not arrived that night. She was stressed by this news she had just gotten, and she didn't feel like going home,what if it happened again and this time no one saves her? She roamed around the company's premises for a long time and finally leaves and settles for a coffee shop. She felt stupid for hanging around and not going home yet she knew her reason was valid. She was traumatized.

She was hungry as hell and couldn't afford to get any food, the moment she feared had come she had no choice but to walk back home. She stops at the bus stop and decided to take another route hoping this would be a safer one to take, and besides it wasn't night yet so she walked as fast as she could to get home and lock herself in.

She soon notices that she was being followed, and each time she turned around there was no one there. She started walking even faster and suddenly someone is in front of her.

"Weren't you the girl saved by her hero the other day, well today isn't a lucky one she turns around only to notice she was in the midst of five guys.

She closed her eyes and said this was it. Today is probably her turn and next tomorrow she was going to be in the news again. How many more girls till the government did something about this

Now she hoped Howard was following her again.
