In the middle

The plane landed at eight p.m. and by nine Carmen and Dax were standing in the lobby of La Parisienne hotel.

As they both stood at the counter, Carmen strived her best to keep up the calm appearance each time Dax looked at her even though the fact that she and Dax were staying in the same hotel wasn't something she wanted when she and Liam were having a rough time.

“Welcome to Paris, Madame and Monsieur. Your rooms are ready. These are the key cards, and thank you for choosing La Parisienne hotel.” The receptionist gently said.

“Thanks,” Dax replied as he picked up the cards from the counter.

Then he turned to Carmen, and when their eyes met, he beamed at her.

“I guess we are neighbors again,” Dax said as he handed Carmen one of the key cards.

With an awkward smile on her lip, she slowly took it from his hand.

“Thanks,” Carmen whispered although she meant for her voice to come out a bit louder.

“Are you sure that you are okay?” Dax ask
