CHAPTER 3 I Can’t Believe It.

Even though Laura headed to bed earlier than Frank, she knew she had a lot to think about. She needed to acknowledge the fact that her relationship with Jayden had come to an end. She silently cried herself to sleep not causing any alarm towards Frank.

In the morning, she woke up from hearing some noises in the kitchen. She lived a lonely life since her entire family lived in another city so It was quite unfamiliar to hear other noises other than hers in her apartment, most importantly, her kitchen. The thought of her bringing a stranger back home quickly flashed her mind.

Frank woke up a little earlier than Laura. He got done with the shower and was set to make some breakfast before Laura woke up.

Seeing that his stay at Laura’s apartment was unexpected, he was forced to wear the same clothes from yesterday and change them once he got back to his house.

Not knowing where Laura puts her aprons in the kitchen, he laid his shirt out on the coffee table as he did not want to get any food stains on his already wrinkled shirt at the stove, leaving his upper body bare.

The door of Laura’s bedroom opened and in front of it was Laura in her pajamas rubbing her eyes. He glanced over his shoulder as he heard foot steps heading towards the kitchen. Their eyes finally met as she sat on one of the stools in the kitchen but he blinked and innocently looked away.

“Forgive my manners. My name is Laura Zulu and what is your name?” Her voice was calm but still heavy with sleep.

“It’s Frank Shone” he answered. “Breakfast will be ready in the next 5mins.” Walking up to him, her eyes lit up up as she glanced at the stove. He was stir frying some bacon. Bacon, eggs, toasted bread with a tall glass of warm milk was always her “go to” breakfast and it seemed like he already read her mind.

Growing up in a family of three boys and him being the first born, Frank was taught all that he needed to know about house chores as well as cooking by his mother. So making a simple breakfast like this one was just a piece of cake to him.

“Why ain’t you wearing your shirt on?” He took a quick look at himself and then back at her “ I don’t know where you place your aprons and I didn’t want to get my shirt dirty”

“They are over there” pointing at the cabinet in her kitchen’s little store room. “ I will remember that the next time I’ll come that’s if I’ll be given a chance to.” He mumbled quietly as he continued to plate their breakfast.

As she sat down on the coffee table, he put down a plate of food and a tall glass of warm milk in front of her. “ Thank you” her eyes admiring her plate as she started to dig in. In spite of that, she did not have a big appetite than usual but she didn’t want to disappoint her chef of the day so she ate just enough.

They had a light conversation between them, giving each other details of what the did for a living and other necessary basic information about themselves. However,Frank kept on battling with whether to ask her about yesterday’s incident or not but before he could say anything, Laura’s phone made a sound.

Ding!

It was a message alert sound.

[ Create some time for you to come to Lusaka, we need to talk.]

When Laura saw the message, she couldn’t believe it. Jayden did not value her one bit. He couldn’t even apologize but actually commanded her to go and meet him in Lusaka. “What does he take me for? Why couldn’t he come to kitwe and explain himself?”

Laura felt a huge blow to her heart and a sudden urge to cry. She held her phone, hesitant on whether to reply or not. “Do you think he is worth your love?!” Frank noticed how Laura’s facial expressions changed upon seeing the text and made a good guess of the person who sent it.

“No, he is not worth it” Laura wiped down her tears as she put her phone down and promised herself not to waste any more tears on a man like Jayden ever.

“As much as I’d like to stay, I have to take my leave and get changed at home. Even though it’s a Saturday today, I have a couple of errands to catch up but I’ll surely create time in the evening to check up on you.”

He wore his shirt on and was ready to leave after cleaning up Laura’s kitchen. They exchanged contacts and he finally left leaving Laura all alone.

It was almost 12 PM, and Laura found herself lost in her thoughts again as she laid down on her bed. She felt the need to talk to someone and decided to call Agness her childhood her best friend.

She answered immediately “ Are you alright? Is something wrong? Where you crying?” The worry in her friend’s voice was evident enough. Knowing how much her best friend cared for her, she knew she was always ready to drop everything she’s doing and get on the next flight just to see her.

“Hello love” Laura tried to compose herself.

“Laura, what is wrong? Do you want me to come? Forget it! I’m coming, I’ll be there in the next 2 hours.”

“Yes, please come.” Laura couldn’t hold back her tears any longer. “Jayden has been cheating on me and I broke up with him.”
